none of her singles have been riveting but let's see the album

This drop off is comparable to Alexandra Burke's truth album

Her second album was a huge mistake, so all over the place

she would be in a different place if her self titled was also her 2nd album, would be a nice progress from TIU

Honestly YFH wasn't particularly the mistake, if handled better it could've done at least decent. Kiss the Stars got some good promo (and that horrendous video ddd) and the GP actually reacted to that launching it to top 10 without a pre-order'd EP, and helped the album rise to Gold. Album should've came out right after AAT, a ballad to follow up and sell during the xmas period (as it was the market norm back then), Kiss the Stars early in 2012 and then wrap with WDYTM (without Pusha) :michael:

Self titled lacked a STRONG single to push it, I love Nasty but that was even more polarizing than the YFH singles and her being unable to hit the high note live was a laughing stock at the time :deadbanana4: Heart Cry, Lay Me Down and Break Up Song are not strong enough to have taken it's place.

Will listen to the album in the morning, but from the singles this is exactly what I'm fearing.

KTS is horrendous :chick1: she got 3 cute top10s but alienated her image and sound for GP

Mama Do, CMO and BAG have a soul feeling, so would make more sense to release something in this vein

But well, pop girls in UK are very "disposable", and she had at least two eras with certification

One thing I don't like about these new songs is that they all sound like some live version with isolated vocals for YouTube or something. I guess that is due to lacking budget for vocal production

Brief ranking after the first listen (with a lot of goodwill for Pix):

1. Show You Love 7,5/10 it's cute

2. Somebody's Daughter 8/10

3. Anybody Else 8/10 This should be the single

4. Blockbuster Video 6/10

5. Midnight Trash 8/10

6. Further From Love 8/10 I think this might become my fave. I'm quite intrigued from it

7. Coco 6,5/10 idk that Coco Chanel line puts me off

8. Happy 3/10 it sounds like some parody song that is sung on a morning show where some cook brought breakfast :skull:

9. Vintage 5/10 boring

10. Stars 9/10 clear fave. I love a classic euphoric bop (though her vocals drown a bit with the loud instrumental tbh)

11. Say So 7/10

12. All We Have Is Now 6/10

13. Comes Back Around 6/10 cute outtro I guess

All in all it is not the sound I listen to a lot so I won't be coming back to it in full. Few songs will be added to my playlist though and maybe they will grow on me more. Unfortunately I have to see though that the Pixie I loved so much 14 years ago is not doing the music I love now anymore. Lemme go back and stream Raise Up and Champion :jamming:

Anybody Else and Further From Love are real cute, but that's where the album starts and ends for me I fear :doc:

Hmm, don't really love the album. I always looooved her voice, but I find it kinda grating on this record? Maybe it's because of the mixing.

The worst thing (to me) is the music/sound itself, tho. The songs aren't bad, but they don't show any creativity, don't convey much emotion and are just passable or inoffensive at best. I knew I wasn't gonna get the bops we used to and maybe my standards have gotten higher since her self-titled album, but I feel like that at least still had some personality and emotion to it.

I actually find my reaction to be very similar as when I first listened to The Truth Is by Alexandra Burke, as someone else also said before. Tbh that might have been worse, but that doesn't make this good either

Nothing groundbreaking, but it's honestly not that bad.

I feel like I could get a lot of joy out of it, if there weren't

so many other, better releases to listen to this year
