makeawish Posted July 15 Posted July 15 i had another listen to this today because the new versions popped up on my streaming and...it's not that bad? it's not great (esp in the verses) but it's got a reasonable hook, i'm probably not going to listen to it much but i haven't listened to anything since chained to the rhythm so that's nothing new the press reaction to this all feels a bit ugly, music journos throwing around accusations of irrelevance and someone being past their prime feels a bit "spiderman pointing" meme and i often get the sense that they like coming after an easy target so they can pretend they still have the kind of influence that they had 15 years ago but what brought me here is that i was looking at the uk midweeks and apparently it's just inside the top 40 (#38), which is not great but i'd assumed this was dead and buried so i guess that's a win for her 1
FabForAThrowback Posted July 15 Posted July 15 In a new interview Katy said that in WW she's impersonating her alter ego "Alpha Fe", who is proud to show her sensuality and the power of her body to give life and to raise other human beings. Furthmore the mechanical legs are symbol of her new acquired sensation of being grounded and confident in herself. Indeed, I think the WW video wants to represent in the first part macho culture for which women are celebrated only for satisfying the male gaze; that implies also the imposition of high beauty standards. In the second part, Katy, through her feminist character Alpha Fe, is free to be herself as a strong indipendent woman and encourages others of doing the same. In last scene she takes the spotlight away from the girl in sign of women's liberation from being a product of industry/socials and takes it for herself, claming the power of deciding what she wants to show and when to do it. 4
dreampop Posted July 15 Posted July 15 This era is kinda giving ootb… hear me out- First single of ootb was ur so gay = First single of 143 was WOMANS WORLD (both controversial) Second single of ootb was I kissed a girl and it went to number one- so maybe 143 really is the rebirth of Katy perry 2
Nashe Posted July 15 Posted July 15 I want her to have such a big rebound after this massive failure, but we all know it's not going to happen if she continues putting out Dr. Luke produced stuff. The vinyls and other physical variants seem to have been produced already, so changing anything about the album last-minute seems... unrealistic? But is it really worth it continuing the album's roll-out and it being released in the end if the numbers will be obviously terrible? I don't wanna say it, but atp canceling the album (or delaying for early next year) and her acknowledging her mistake would be the wisest thing to do. No matter how much the album's production cost was, they won't be seeing any profit anyway. 2

Katy isn't new at all for these messages and claims. Bon appetit MV is a clear example and pair of this. Goofiness and camp are her way to communicate in general and I don't understand why people don't respect it. Like all other artist, she has the full right to express herself trough her own language and artistry. Edited July 15 by FabForAThrowback 4
