gettsleazy Posted June 17 Posted June 17 (edited) Interesting that a lot of the timeline opinions cut off around 2014 when I'd argue it's through 2017. Praying was a bigger single by YE (3x Platinum, #66 Billboard YE chart) than most 2000s/2010s popstar efforts and Rainbow went #1, critical acclaim, Grammy noms, did every late night show, etc. 2014-2016 she had Timber, then she was all over the press constantly with the exception of maybe 2015. People forget how high-profile #FreeKesha became, and it's a testament to her relevance + position in the pantheon that people even cared that much. She had a ton of goodwill in 2016 with her Dylan performance and lawsuit-related coverage. Not sure if this qualifies because it's not really her "music" but to say she wasn't mainstream through at least Rainbow is kind of untrue Hoping she cements her legacy sometime this decade with a Cher-like comeback. Who knows! Edited June 17 by gettsleazy 5 1
JoeAg Posted June 17 Posted June 17 yeah 2010-2014 like others have said Rainbow was almost another MPG moment but unfortunately (and it's COMPLETELY beyond me why) it didn't take off the way I was hoping it would at least it's still a pop masterpiece!
Triton Posted June 17 Posted June 17 She had the #1 year-end song of 2010 and blocked many other "MPG" and their alleged biggest singles so….
Cain Posted June 17 Posted June 17 6 hours ago, Aurora said: 2010-2012 You don't have to be a MPG to score a hit feature, by 2014 Warrior, "C'Mon", and "Crazy Kids" had already performed to a non-MPG standard. I love her but it's the truth. This, I was a stan during that time but by the time C'Mon flopped it was clear she was not meant to last However yes she was an undeniable MPG during the Animal/Cannibal era. She was always grouped in with Katy, Gaga and Rih during those years
toxicgenie Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Yes, but her peak was short-lived because of what she went through...However, there is no denying she still meets the qualifications. 1
KKKIMO92 Posted June 18 Posted June 18 She is more know for her songs than herself. Seeing how low her first week sales were, I wouldn't say she's a MPG. No one is following her or excited seeing her touring or performing, she just has lots of catchy pops thanks to Dr Luke…. 3

The question isn't whether she still is a MPG and her tours are always sold out. Her Coachella performance this year literally went viral. You're just saying sh*t. 2
1989 Posted June 20 Posted June 20 Yes, from late 2009-2014. 2017 was also a big year for her career-wise, but unfortunately it didn't last as long as it should've. It doesn't matter though, she's proven to be one of the best pop girls out there, and with how strong her material is, she could have a "Cher moment" at literally any time. 1
MatiRod Posted June 20 Posted June 20 (edited) Yes 100% during the Animal/Cannibal era(s) in 2010-2011. Her album did 150k first week. She debuted songs in the Top 10 as well that week. Then she debuted at #1 on the Hot 100 later that year. She had six Top 10 hits in a row (seven with "Die Young"). She was basically instantly a household name by the first half of 2010, Glee had an episode where she heavily featured and the cast shouted her out during it for example. Her album went 3x Platinum and it's probably eligible for a lot higher. These are all Main Pop Girl tingz. Edited June 20 by MatiRod 1
Polgg48 Posted June 20 Posted June 20 her peak brief week of WAWWA debut at number one, wish they pushed more effort to blow sending remix as official tho
