Tbh I'm not a fan of TTPD, but there are a few songs I like. I hope we get more of a so high school sound for ts12! Unfortunately haven't been really a fan of the last few albums.

Oh, wait - this made me think.

Can we also count the bridge of Treacherous as an excellent lyric from TTPD now? You know, since there's an edition of the album with that live mashup with The Alchemy, and that mashup is the greatest live recording of her career and all :heart2:

In all seriousness, that particular track did make me appreciate the lyrics of The Alchemy significantly more. It really put the whole thing into a fascinating new context.

It's just a shame that these songs were either discarded from the standard or bundled up with the other atrocities on this album

And let's be real Down Bad shouldn't even be on this list if you're trying to make a case the chorus is one of her most tragic :deadbanana4:

Anyways yeah the worse songs overshadow and ruin this album

she wants the first week sales, so the album is sent for print months before it is ready.

just get used to that, bc I am sure she will keep doing that

I read all of that with a big smile on my face!

Oh the bridge of Peter is amazing too.

I know people hate that Charlie Puth line but I kinda dig it.
And the way she sings ' you left your typewriter at my apartment, straight from the tortured poets department.' Only Taylor can make that word vomit sound so pleasing.

I genuinely like

As the men masqueraded, I hoped you'd return
With your feet on the ground, tell me all that you'd learned

I'm combing through the braids of lies
"I'll never leave" ...
"Never mind"
Our field of dreams, engulfed in fire
Your arson's match your somber eyes
And I'll still see it until I die
You're the loss of my life

I was going to do this one but forgot!! Probably for the best since I already did two other lyrics from loml.

So true bestie. I almost used this one, but decided to boycott TTPD since I do believe that it's the worst song on the album :fan:

They're not bad but I guess I was waiting for something incredible based on what her stans claim. Needless to say I can hear most of these in her voice and I'd probably appreciate the lyrics more if the music sounded better. Guess music > lyrics at the end of the day because if I wanted to read stories or poetry, I'd turn to that medium.

Say it once again with feeling

How the death rattle breathing

Silenced as the soul was leaving

The deflation of our dreaming

My beloved ghost and me

Sitting in a tree

D Y I N G

I know it's controversial, but I think the lyrics for 'I Hate it Here' are fantastic.

I know a lot of people were whining "bUt ItS rAcIsT!!!@!!!" - when in reality it acknowledges how quick people are to think there's something 'comforting' about going to the past and thinking it will be more simple times, when in reality it's all an illusion and something simply being in the past does not make it nostalgic.

"Quick, quick, tell me something awful / Like you are a poet trapped inside the body of a finance guy" -- This opening line is just a *chefs kiss* brilliant, simplified lyric. At least the way I read it is that Taylor's begging the 'finance' guy' to tell them that secretly they are someone who is much softer, analytical, and philosophical than what a typical finance guy is - and the 'awful' piece is her being wrong with their impression and can now be distracted for a time being learning more about what's beyond the facade. I don't if it's the human behaviour geek in me, but this song just brings me so much joy.

I think the main reason people are mocking her songwriting is because she has too many stinkers to be considerate THE songwriter. She's skilled and one of the best in current pop but she ain't no Stevie Nicks and/or Tracy Chapman as most of her songs deal with the same topic AND she has a lot of said stinkers.

ok but I'm a Stevie stan DOWN and she has a ton of awful lyrics  I can't really think of any artist with a massive discography that is just consistently great lyrically. Like all my faves (Stevie, Joni, Mariah, Taylor) are outstanding songwriters, but they also have very large discographies and the lyrics are inconsistent.

My favorite song on the album lyrically and otherwise is Cassandra.
