PoisonedIvy
The answer is no, but I welcome any attempts! I mean, just look at the material. Quote Earth went silent London fell asleep She dreamed of winter Where you appeared to me Perfect timing as new petals in November A tender creature A fever Disarming, fluorescent There you were With your mirror Shining the world all over me There I was With my butterfly net Trying to catch your light Literal poetry luv.. Eternium
Many times. In terms of pure poetry, Mine is an incredible sonnet. In terms of songwriting, Down Bad is eating.

cloudbusting
no, but she's also not the same kind of songwriter as Caroline (or Natalie but she's just a feature here) it's difficult to really compare tbh

JoeAg
2 hours ago, cloudbusting said: no, but she's also not the same kind of songwriter as Caroline (or Natalie but she's just a feature here) it's difficult to really compare tbh this from a pure storytelling perspective I could see myself at certain moments preferring to bliss out nostalgically to Seven for its more unfiltered childlike wonder, which Taylor doesn't tap into often unfortunately. in her songwriting she kinda doesn't let herself have that freedom a lot anymore, which is a shame! but there's a stark difference between these two songs: nuance vs directness, abstract vs linear, introspection vs trying to put oneself back into that moment Caroline & Weyes Blood are obviously the former in all those dichotomies, which makes their song more ethereal and progressive. Taylor correlates to the latter, which isn't a bad thing, but it's more… well, for lack of a better term basic. so there are some days when I'm like "oh I wanna relive some childhood nostalgia!" and I'll spin Seven on repeat for a few hours. but Butterfly Net is certainly more all around captivating regardless of my mood

Safe&Sound
The Prophecy has kinda similar poetic in it Quote Hand on the throttle Thought I caught lightning in a bottle Oh, but it's gone again And it was written I got cursed like Eve got bitten Oh, was it punishment? Pad around when I get home I guess a lesser woman would've lost hope A greater woman wouldn't beg But I looked to the sky and said Please I've been on my knees Change the prophecy Don't want money Just someone who wants my company Let it once be me Who do I have to speak to About if they can redo The prophecy? Cards on the table Mine play out like fools in a fable, oh It was sinking in Slow is the quicksand Poison blood from the wound of the pricked hand Oh, still I dream of him Please I've been on my knees Change the prophecy Don't want money Just someone who wants my company Let it once be me Who do I have to speak to About if they can redo The prophecy? And I sound like an infant Feeling like the very last drops of an ink pen A greater woman stays cool But I howl like a wolf at the moon And I look unstable Gathered with a coven round a sorceress' table A greater woman has faith But even statues crumble if they're made to wait I'm so afraid I sealed my fate No sign of soulmates I'm just a paperweight In shades of greige Spending my last coin so someone will tell me It'll be ok
