Motomami, Renaissance, BRAT. The three defining albums of the 20s. Agree?

no

I mean Brat just came out so it's hard to say

but if I were to do a 3 zeitgeist-defining albums of the 2020s so far I'd do like:

1. Fetch the Bolt Cutters

2. Cowboy Carter

3. Desire, I Want to Turn into You

they just feel like the three most relevant and culture-shifting moments I'd say, if I were to take the altsphere and the popsphere into mind. I could see Brat replacing D,IWtTiY, but I think Cowboy Carter solidly replaced Renaissance (though I might also be taking some personal bias into account here lol)

as for Fetch the Bolt P*ssy? I really think that'll end the decade as the definitive statement for the beginning of the 2020s, but something else might be the definitive statement for the latter half of the 2020s... we shall see

OP you actually cooked so good job here. Leaving Kelela's Raven outside of this decade's defining releases seems wrong for me but it's not really as brash/confrontational as these three who I can see why they'd be grouped together. They can be the c*nt trinity of mainstream releases sure.

Maybe they can sit with Kelela in the art pop lounge but it might be awkward.

Wouldn't it be something like:

Folklore, SOS, Sour (& maybe future Nostalgia)?

For POP girls I'd say:

Desire I Turn To You

Folklore

Rennaisance

Sour

Motomami will be remembered as a highlight of 2020's pop for sure, like it's a fact. Brat will be as well, give it time.

A list not including future nostalgia is rendered VOID

Almost nobody mentioning Future Nostalgia and What's Your Pleasure? :rip:

But yeah, Motomami, Brat and Renaissance make sense together in a way.

I guess that depends on age, standards, musical knowledge and range of genres/albums you have listened.

My answer would be NO, or hopefully NO, cause if these three are the best from this decade we are even more f*cked than we thought

Making this thread but not naming WDTY which objectively had more impact than at least 2 of the albums named in less time is kinda hilarious.

Motomami was great i loved it, but it didn't do well Commercially considering she was the it girl at the time. It came and went. I wouldn't have called it defining of the decade tbh.

It should've been tho.

And brat? Really? It's not even a day out :toofunny3:

The erasure of What's Your Pleasure? as the best dance pop album of the 20s even if it's still 2024, is criminal.

Godaissance and Motomami though, I hear you.

The correct answer is folklore, Un Verano Sin Ti & Renaissance/SOUR

I like MOTOMAMI more but I agree that Un did more impact in popularizing reggae/latin music. No question on folklore, it's pandemic record and has widespread influence/impact. The third is a tough one but I think it's Future Nostalgia, dance-pop was so trendy. Ren and SOUR are good but the impact is very niche.

It's definitely Sour for 3rd spot, I think. FN is close behind it, though
