Gwendolyn Posted June 6 Posted June 6 The woman who claims to be the inspiration for Richard Gadd's hit Netflix "Baby Reindeer" has sued the streamer, seeking monetary damages of at least $170 million. Fiona Harvey has publicly said the character of Martha in "Baby Reindeer," played by Jessica Gunning (pictured above), is based on her. She is suing Netflix, alleging defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence and violations of her right of publicity. The suit was filed Thursday in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. Copy of Harvey's complaint is at this link. Harvey's lawsuit alleges Netflix told "brutal lies" about her in the "Baby Reindeer" series. "The lies that Defendants told about Harvey to over 50 million people worldwide include that Harvey is a twice-convicted stalker who was sentenced to five years in prison, and that Harvey sexually assaulted Gadd," her complaint says. "Defendants told these lies, and never stopped, because it was a better story than the truth, and better stories made money." The lawsuit continues, "As a result of Defendants' lies, malfeasance and utterly reckless misconduct, Harvey's life had been ruined. Simply, Netflix and Gadd destroyed her reputation, her character and her life." Gadd is not named as a defendant. https://variety.com/2024/tv/global/baby-reindeer-real-martha-fiona-harvey-sues-netflix-1236019699/ 1
Europe Posted June 6 Posted June 6 She should sue Gadd, not netflix. He has been making a living by making fun of her well before the netflix series. He made a play about her which he performed for years. 1 4
brraap Posted June 6 Posted June 6 No offence but wasn't her life kind of already in the pits because of her behaviour and possible mental illness Get that coin tho girl (I guess) 3 2
glitch Posted June 6 Posted June 6 I mean she kinda ruined her own life by doing that Piers Morgan interview. If she hadn't said anything, people would've moved on from the show after a month and no one would've known it was her 1 4 1

Pendulum Posted June 6 Posted June 6 3 minutes ago, Galaxy said: One of the characteristics of a sociopath is the lack of empathy. Idk, she had plenty of empathy towards Gadd. What's bothering me is that this woman's issues and personality disorder and god knows what were broadcasted to the whole world to make fun of. No. 2
Littlejfrey Posted June 6 Posted June 6 This whole thing is so weird to me. What Richard went through is awful, but I don't understand why the whole show was centered on "Martha" and not on the guy who actually r word him, and on the show, at the end it seemed like he wanted to protect her because she was "damaged"... so why would you go and release this, knowing that it was matter of time before someone on the internet could find her and disclose her real identity she definitely seems to have lots of problems, but I doubt everything we saw on the show was 100% real 3
Kern Posted June 6 Posted June 6 It was very easy for people to find out who real Martha was and he did nothing about it. He made fun of her, exposed to the whole world with no regard, made tons of money from it. It's NEVER okay to expose someone like that without letting them defend themselves. I can't believe people are actually defending him and he's not being sued into oblivion 1 3

And she has mental problems and needs help. There are also institutions that deal with those kind of things and Netflix isn't one of them. Lose the attitude and grow up 1 1
kellebrity98 Posted June 6 Posted June 6 for what? they literally changed the names, added fiction and if she doesn't come out no one will know that it was her… doing it for clout. if she actually was offended why run to a talk show first then after the interview, 1 month later she pulls this. 1
Miles. Posted June 6 Posted June 6 (edited) I'm stunned to see people defending her in here. It doesn't matter if things were embellished for the sake of the story - that's why these programs say "based on a true story", not that it is 100% true. In any case, she is a stalker and an abuser. She doesn't deserve our sympathy just because she's a woman or because she has mental health issues - plenty of male serial killers and rapists have mental health issues and they don't receive or deserve sympathy. If this was a more traditional story with a female victim and a male perpetrator, and he sued, y'all would be (rightfully) calling for his head. Male victims deserve the same support. Female abusers shouldn't be glorified. I'm sure Netflix will fight and win this anyway. Edited June 6 by Miles. 7 1

It's wild how people in here are defending and bringing up the excuse of mental problems to defend her. Most of serial killers and stalkers are deranged and HAVE mental issues. Doesn't mean **** when decide to act on it. Another case of a male victim not being taken seriously. 2
duadududt Posted June 7 Posted June 7 He never ever mentioned her name, she's the one doing interviews about it so it's her own fault.
