laqqinq Posted August 30 Posted August 30 Quote Travis sold over 50K of these. With no requirement of redeeming the album! With no dates for a tour, etc. I spoke to him. He knows he doesn't have the #1 album this week. I love my fans for the #1 album in AMERICA! I'll explain on the #ShortNSweetTour 6 albums in, #1 in over 70 countries ♥️
fridayteenage Posted August 30 Posted August 30 (edited) 3 simultaneous top 5s for an album poets 1989tv for all the dogs her loss midnights certified lover boy thank u next scorpion purpose possibly beatles in 1964. it's hard to keep track of which songs were from which albums esp with differences between US & UK releases. it would be very off-putting if her album wasn't on top. MatiRod Posted August 30 Posted August 30 (edited) You know how Chartmasters has his industry 'leagues' thesis (where artists on major labels are either C, B or A league in each country)? Sabrina's career since "Skin" is a great example of it. (sorry this is the music industry nerd in me coming out) Before the Olivia drama she was squarely C league, a minor (major label) artist not really promoted all that much outside of her niche. Then with the Olivia drama she attained some prominence in the media and she was upgraded to B league, bigger writing rooms, bigger producers, more promo, suddenly at the MET Gala, that lasted until "Nonsense", which was given the biggest push yet. Then when that caught on, and the next single ("Feather") did even better, she was like B+. Then when "Espresso" debuted at #7, Island had full confidence they could push her for real and that she was ready to be a superstar, and they bumped her up to A-league with the according promo budget increase. Suddenly she was everywhere, her Coachella set looked so expensive, the videos were suddenly mega budget, huge streaming promo, arena tour quickly planned, all over the media, etc etc. So it shows that it really does take millions of dollars to make a superstar with big hits, BUT in today's world the industry seems like it's going more for developing artists at a lower level and seeing how they progress before going all-in. Chappell is the same story. Whereas in the days of Britney and Xtina, and Katy and Gaga, it seemed to happen a lot faster, if someone showed signs of getting a hit they went overboard with the promo. Of course if Sabrina wasn't a super talented, charismatic star with great songs all the promo in the world wouldn't have mattered. Edited August 30 by MatiRod 2
alexaalto Posted August 30 Posted August 30 Taste (demo) is such a jam Busy Woman deserved to be on the album, it washes out at least 7 out of the og tracks a great upbeat-ish track
