Anyone else got their faces ruined by orthodontics?

You have braces for 4 months now, right? So there's still a whole year for your jaw to allign, I wouldn't sweat it.

Though, I feel your pain completely. Last year I found out that the reason why my teeth are so ****** up is because a dumb ass dentist removed my teeth when I was a kid, and my jaw has been shrinking ever since :skull:

P.S. You still look good, if it makes you feel any better!

I feel like this is one of those things where if you didn't tell me you noticed a difference I would have no idea. Either way I think you look super handsome and would date you in a heartbeat

@AxelFox honey you may be just a little too eager and trigger-happy with the body modification stuff because based on these photographs there is no need whatsoever to go so far as to "get jaw surgery or get fillers for the rest of [your] life." Trust that if you are unhappy with these barely noticeable changes in the past year, you will never be happy once you start ****ing with your face like that. Talk about irreversible. You still look exactly like you right now even though you may not feel like it. Don't get a Gaga'd Efron'd jaw please I beg you.

That's exactly why I feel so bad about this because I don't want to mess with my face like that. But I really dislike the hollowed look that this has given me.

Yeah I basically fell down a rabbit hole now reading about this stuff and it seems that extractions have a major negative impact of the face structure and should only be done if the tooth itself is compromised.

I wish I had read about all of this before because I would have vehemently opposed to having any teeth extracted.

Don't get any surgery sis, you look fine :gaycat6:

Extractions should be avoided, true. But you got your teeth removed and then got braces? Your orthodontist should make sure that the teeth spread out so the jaw does not shrink. Doesn't seem like something too complicated :michael: Like I said, it's only been a few months and I don't think anything is permanent yet, but I absolutely emphatize with your fear of drastic changes to your face.

Hell why not

Left is now which was taken in April, almost a month after the final extraction and a month of braces. Right is about a year ago.

That's not gonna build bone structure back sadly. The shrinkage was caused by the extractions, not by my teeth moving necesarily.

You look the same to me, fine too.

Even with you pointing out the changes I've had a hard time noticing them. Sorry to hear it's bothering. You look very handsome

Sis, trust me, your face 100% will go back to normal, your exact same story happened to my cousin and she was LOSING it, she was so paranoid for months (and tbh, her face did change those months, she looked gaunt or like she had buccal fat removal) then it totally went back to how it was prior

the doctor explained to her, it had to do with the muscles of the face or something like that, i'll ask her

Yeah I will definitely talk to my doctor at my next appointment which is in around 2 weeks because I've become very paranoid. Your cousin's case gives me a bit of hope but from what I've read so far that is not the case for a lot of people, and many end up like the gif below.

I appreciate everyone's nice comments but I really didn't open this with the intent of fishing for compliments. I'm really interested to hear if anyone's gone through something similar and to which results, because I've really considering the option of stopping my orthodontic treatment before it gets worse than what it is now.

i had braces for years as a teenager and still wear retainers every day, i don't think there was ever a change. honestly you don't look different at all to me, i think you're nitpicking your appearance since we all see miniature differences in the way we look everyday, don't be so hard on yourself

This guys explain how this can happen in this video

Obviously take it with a grain of salt as with everything else, but I've seen the negative changes happen to my face. That's why I want to hear more first-hand experiences from people that have dealt with this. You said you had yours removed too, but that you're happy with how you look. What was your head shape originally, and how does your profile look like now?

So first off nothing was "ruined" you look amazing. Great skin, hair, bone structure etc.

But have I ever noticed facial change from dentistry? Yes I have noticed my facial shape change a bit since I started using a night guard every night due to TMJ problems. I think it was for the better. I have straight teeth but plan on getting braces once I finish college next year to help correct my bite.

I honestly can't really tell you as I had them all removed when I was 10 and wore my braces from 10 til 12. I was a chubby kid and then got toned as a teenager. I have quite defined cheekbones now and a slender face, which I guess could partly be due to the removal of my teeth, but I really like the way it looks

I don't have a before or after pic as an adult so I'll never know if I would've looked the way I do now if I would've never gotten my teeth removed

On the topic of your picture, I do see a slight difference, and I can imagine how you feel, however like somebody else said I would just take your time with this process and trust your body to correct itself. If you still don't like the way you look by the time your braces are done, then go in for consultations

They removed my wisdom teeth as well but they had not come out yet as I was a teenager. It did fix my overbite. Very glad my mom spent the dough to get me and my siblings braces. She always told me that my teeth would be the only thing I take to the grave so they might as well be str8

You look fine (emphasis on fine 😏). I honestly don't see much difference.

your face will keep evolving for a long time even after you finished the treatment so I suggest to be patient and calm. I tell you this because I had regular braces 8 years ago and last year I had Invisalign to correct some details.
