glitch Posted May 31 Posted May 31 (edited) I've been doing a bit of research recently and was surprised to see just how many countries still require their citizens to join the army. It got me thinking, there's probably some ATRLers who live in these nations and had to serve for their country. So ATRL, do you live in a country that enforces national service and if so did you join up or did you get out of it somehow? I need a soldier that ain't scared to stand up for me Known to carry big things if you know what I mean Edited May 31 by glitch
liam13 Posted May 31 Posted May 31 (edited) my country has it. all men who are above 18 and under 27 will have to mandatorily serve for 2 years and literally nobody wants to. i'm myopic, bad enough that it disqualifies me from military service. thank whoever needs to be thanked Edited May 31 by liam13 1
Doogle Posted May 31 Posted May 31 My country will be introducing it soon when the conservatives win the July election! I'll be 27 then and living in Japan so idk what it means for me but I don't wish to participate. Hopefully I'm considered a hag, but I have been working out lately <3 2

McNulty Posted May 31 Posted May 31 yes but my eye sight was terrible so I got disqualified thank god
AdamRiver96 Posted May 31 Posted May 31 I'm from Singapore, so it's compulsory. Served for 2 years, but will have to go back for 10 more years for around 1-2 weeks each time.
Gesamtkunstwerk Posted May 31 Posted May 31 Yes, they pick randomly, if you refuse, you have to do some voluntary work they arrange for you instead. I got ADD so I am disqualified, thank god because I'm definitely not cut out for military
Kayseri Mantisi Posted May 31 Posted May 31 Not yet but I will since it's compulsory in Turkey, but they give you the right to do it after you're completely done with anything education related so I'll probably do it after the master's or PhD lol, might do it early depending on my mood. I'm excited for it though & not against it, kinda can't wait for it

conquxror Posted May 31 Posted May 31 Here in Brazil it is mandatory for you to enlist when you turn 18, but it's not mandatory to serve necessarily. They ask you (when you're enlisting) if you'd like to serve and in most cases they respect your wishes. I got out immediately due to a fracture I had in my clavicle at the time — thank god.
duybeeGAshantiGA Posted May 31 Posted May 31 In my country it's a must for all men but if you a bit of money you can work your way around it so you don't have to go.
ThousandMiles Posted May 31 Posted May 31 being real I'm so sorry for all gay men who have who serve mandatory service, that's literally my nightmare
sickofwaitingtables Posted May 31 Posted May 31 Yeah, and it was a cause of great anxiety for me before I joined. But in the end it made me a lot stronger and wiser (it still was a shitty experience, if you can avoid it, then you should do just that).
Totami Legend Posted May 31 Posted May 31 Nope but the right wants to re-introduce this **** in my country. My dad served and at some point he called his parents to came back home and he did lmfao 1

theoghon Posted May 31 Posted May 31 (edited) Plsss 🤚😭 it must svck to grow up in a country that requires mandatory military service, it's not even a thing in my country *****, nor for our neighboring countries...so I'm kinda shocked that some gheys grow up with such a different kind of fear Edited May 31 by theoghon
