family.guy123 Posted May 29 Posted May 29 I think Swifties are being confused with online Swifties. They're a whole different breed. Of course her fanbase likes her *checks notes* most streamed album of all time and *checks notes* highest charting catalogue album.
family.guy123 Posted May 29 Posted May 29 It's just that there's a small, but noisy group trying to convince us that her second best album is actually her worst. 1

The Music Industry Posted May 30 Posted May 30 The idea that Lover, of all albums, is only doing so well because of her core fanbase is genuinely hilarious. It's quite literally one of the least liked Taylor albums by Swifties. 2 1
pinkdiamond Posted May 30 Posted May 30 My big question is how is Benson Boone holding on this well? Surely it can't just be units from Beautiful Things 1

Casual listeners stream only Mostly true. But people getting into vinyl also often buy some classic albums to start their collection. That's why Rumors has had high vinyl sales for the last 4 years or so. I wouldn't be surprised if some casual listeners who are pop fans would buy 1989. Them buying lover is less likely. 1
Clauss Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Another massive week, wonder how many above 100k we will see. How many did 1989/Midnights had?

Casual listeners stream only if only i was in the US, i would buy a bunch of albums from artists that im casual fans. Like 10USD-15USD/CD 30USD/vinyl doesnt sound bad But it sucked to leave in South East Asia, the shipping cost is insane. CD is 20-30USD, Vinyl is 40-50 USD lol, and not to mention the exchange rate/ income gap so i can only afford Taylor`s album (1 variant only ) Is there someone from the US can share their habit? liek you only purchase physical from your main fave or just buy whatever album you like
Jessie Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Surely it's pretty clear the reason Lover has had such longevity is because Cruel Summer has turned into Taylor's biggest streaming era smash and the soundtrack of the eras tour, which is her pop cultural peak that continues to be a dominant part of cultural conversation? It's GP driven. Pretty much how any album, especially pop albums, do well over time these days. You need people streaming hit singles, whether those hits come years later via viral trends that get locals on board or are retroactively tacked on.

Hey hey 15 hours ago, More Than A Melody said: It won't be 1000% fair, but it'll be the fairest comparison. "You lose steam" doesn't really apply when we're talking about the first couple of months after release for artists with huge dedicated fanbases.

Casual listeners stream only I did with Kacey Musgrave's Deeper Well. I wasn't a fan before the first single. So.... maybe best to just take the L and listen to a Calvin Harris song from 2012 again.

Casual listeners stream only Absolutely not true. I will sometimes buy an album if it is one that I think is good, even if I am just a casual fan / listener of the actual artist. The last album I bought that fits this was Royals by Lorde—I’m not a huge fan but I was very into Ribs and Team at the time so I made the purchase. Also did the same for Valentine by Snail Mail, I thought the record sounded very cute to play on vinyl format. My collection actually has a lot of vinyl I’ve bought in that vein.

For example there are not 20k people like you buying Lover and only Lover. I really don't wanna come as a taylor hater cause Im a fan But most of her fanbase has a chronic problem in their head when someone tells them than most of her physical sales come from her own fanbase. New or old. No one even said that she wasn't popular with the GP because she's huge with streaming but her sales are just an anomaly thanks to her fanbase 1

But of course you will keep with your average nonsense because despite albums like TTPD's first 10 songs stomping on Harry's House's top 10, you will say Harry's House is bigger because it has higher "average" than 31 songs album and somehow bigger Edited May 30 by WildHeart 6 3 1
Lorenzo22 Posted May 30 Posted May 30 lover is just higher than most of her albums because it has her most recent smash hit, it's not that complicated 1
