Or maybe Taylor's haters are just loud.

And maybe Billie's supporters are not really supporters but are just Taylor's hater 🙃.

Idk could be

There is definitely a Taylor hate train since she announced the album

But also Billie is at her new peak too. This era seems like it will be bigger than WWAFA

The twenty one pilots stans go hard, I wouldn't be surprised if they push it to #1

The fact that this is doing much more than Scaled and Icy is crazy :WAP: but tbh that album + era were… interesting. The reception from fans seems to be much better for this one

Taylor has survived like 10 different hate train in her career so like right now even if with hate train, she is still on top.

Maybe because of The Eras tour, like i saw a lot of people dislike her in the past might still not like the music but at least now they kinda appreciate her work ethics to put on a 3.5 hours phenomenal  show...

And what you read about TTPD is the initial reaction cause its such a polarized album, but enough time has passed and most of the fanbase would put it in the top half of her discography. I myself put it in top 2 album with Red.

And if non-fans give it more spins to get used to the lyrics and melodies, they may also switch.

The albums sales are insanely high and albums sales are solely fanbase driven.

The GP doesn't buy albums.

But streams are definitely coming from the GP rediscovering her older stuff.

Honest question then who?

I get the GP streaming her older albums, but buying?

My only theory is that she has really been gaining new hardcore stans over the last couple years.

The thing about Lover is that there is a large portion of people buying the album. And only stans buy music these days.

Taylor and Billie are both rich, successful, and happy. That's all that matters.

also most swifties only listen to Taylor, that would explain why Lover is still so insanely high :deadbanana2:

Lover is panned by most Swifties (not including myself).
Lover's consistency in the top 20 is mostly GP driven.

The sales are coming probably by new teen fans, as discussed above

Where did pilots find 50k extra sales vs last album?

Their last album was very polarizing for the fans - this one served quality and goes back to more classic 21P sound as well as a very smart rollout and excitement for their upcoming world tour

The era of "Let me buy this album to put in my room as a piece of art" is doing incredible things for alternative artists, I'm more surprised by the 30k streaming with zero songs on AM, Spotify, Deezer or Youtube. :duck:

some 21st century western group trajectories:

come tomorrow 292-44k

5sos 142-48k

vampire weekend 138-24k I think? that's what google says

jonas 414-52k

arcade fire 100-32k

are there other groups on an upward trajectory? i can't find any 21stc western groups who got 100k in sales since they changed bundle rules.

Their vinyl didn't ship until November for that album, the album re-entered that week at #15 with roughly 22,000 pure sales. There were about half as many variants as they did this time around (looks like there's 13 or so this time, was only 7 last time). So more like ~25,000ish more sales than the last one if the vinyl had shipped immediately

How are TOP doing that much, I really thought they faded after Stressed Out

They've kinda quietly just continued to do well for themselves. They don't really collect hit singles like they did off of Blurryface, but they've got a very strong presence within their scene and their fans are incredibly loyal. The lore that surrounds their work keeps the fans very interested, and that extends to their live shows. They're actually playing bigger venues now than they did during the time that Stressed Out was smashing. They tour arenas and headline festivals and their albums have all hit the top 3. They're just one of those quiet successes and don't really do much to draw attention to themselves outside of the little corner of the industry they've chosen to occupy.

Better promotion, better reception to the album itself, and finally an actual push toward vinyl that they inexplicably didn't do last time. For whatever reason they just really didn't do much to push the last album to anyone other than their fans, but this time they have had a pretty good promotional campaign online that's allowed the album to reach more than just them.

Anyone with two functioning brain cells can see that in the streaming era, it will always be easier for an album with 31 tracks to get bigger numbers compared to an album with only 10 tracks. Not to mention the cult-like following that's obsessively streaming/buying the album, as opposed to Billie's organic success with the GP.

Please consult with the Hive, and ask how that worked out for them.

I'll say that it's obvious that Taylor has GP support

But if you read anywhere online the way people talk about HMHAS and TTPD would make you think those numbers should be inverted, everyone loves Billie right now even more than in 2019.

There is just too many swifties that will keep Taylor on top no matter what, also most swifties only listen to Taylor, that would explain why Lover is still so insanely high :deadbanana2:

So an echo chamber of your algorithm?

A longer album does not guarantee more streams, but it definitely makes it easier because, as I said before, one play of the entire album generates more SEA units.

There are literal studies being written on the parasocial relationships of Taylor and her fans. It is not the same as any other fan base.  You can clearly see it by the way BTS' fans singlehandedly kept their song #1 for weeks, as opposed to, say, Monsters who weren't able to secure extra 3k copies for Stupid Love to go top 3 :rip: Some fan bases are more rabid than others, with Swifties taking the top spot at the moment.

It's worth noting most of those were following albums with tour bundles, or a long gap (in Jonas case, both). And 5SOS went independent with their latest. TOP's new album is after a short gap, neither had bundles and this time their vinyl shipped on time and the album is better received.

The Weeknd has more listeners you stupid hillbilly animal lol

Also In a fan of Taylor but Billie is more well liked by the GP right now

Ever since TTPD dropped a lot of people turned on Taylor tbh.

Maybe we'll eventually see that turning, meanwhile TTPD is enjoying an UNBROKEN six weeks at #1 soon

If Taylor bags 10 weeks will she be the first artist to do that in 3 decades?
