It's not an excuse, but a fact? If one person decided to stream an entire album of Taylor's, it's gonna bring 3x more SEA units than if they streamed Billie's new album.

Speaking of their fans, I am not sure why all of you are so insecure cause I never mentioned Billie having a bigger following than Taylor? :toofunny3: Taylor is the biggest artist at the moment, but that doesn't negate the fact that her fanbase is as cult-like as BTS' or Nicki's for example. The type of canvas that lives through success of their faves, so they are ready to go above and beyond to make sure the album stays #1 for as many weeks as possible.

If one person decided to stream a short album 3 times because they're allegedly in a cult it would be the same outcome  No you said that Taylor has a cult following like it doesn't apply to the majority of popstars, we stan similar people I would know :dies: Billie, being the second most streamed female of all time isn't exactly some indie being crushed by the boot of the big Taylor establishment. They both played the game, Taylor came out on top, Billie got her biggest career sales week.

Wow, those feel like great number for TOP for a rock band these days. They must have a big fanbase? Billie doing amazing too :clap3:

By the time one person finishes TTPD in full, they have played HMHAS thrice. I don't think just because an album is longer then it will automatically have more streams. If the album has replay value, it will generate streams, regardless of length.

Folklore, Lover and Midnights are shorter albums but they also did great streaming numbers. Cowboy Carter didn't, and it's a long album.

A longer album does not guarantee more streams, but it definitely makes it easier because, as I said before, one play of the entire album generates more SEA units.

There are literal studies being written on the parasocial relationships of Taylor and her fans. It is not the same as any other fan base.  You can clearly see it by the way BTS' fans singlehandedly kept their song #1 for weeks, as opposed to, say, Monsters who weren't able to secure extra 3k copies for Stupid Love to go top 3 :rip: Some fan bases are more rabid than others, with Swifties taking the top spot at the moment.

Where did pilots find 50k extra sales vs last album?

The era of "Let me buy this album to put in my room as a piece of art" is doing incredible things for alternative artists, I'm more surprised by the 30k streaming with zero songs on AM, Spotify, Deezer or Youtube. :duck:

This album was marketed to their fanbase as a return to form. Specifically, it's a musical hybrid of their two biggest eras (Blurryface & Trench) and none of the awful commercially mainstream stuff that was on their last album (Scaled & Icy). Blurryface and Trench also have a lot of lore attached to them that attracted the loyal fanbase that was willing to recommit to this era once they knew the band was reverting to the sound & themes that everyone loves from them.

i only know all of this because my best friend is a stan of the band :rip: but yeah, in hearing the album, it's so much better than their 2020 release so it makes sense that the fans are back onboard.

I actually would love it if 21P could somehow get the #1, but I also wanted Billie to last week and that just couldn't happen. Hurricane Taylor is just too devastating :dies:

I'll say that it's obvious that Taylor has GP support

But if you read anywhere online the way people talk about HMHAS and TTPD would make you think those numbers should be inverted, everyone loves Billie right now even more than in 2019.

There is just too many swifties that will keep Taylor on top no matter what, also most swifties only listen to Taylor, that would explain why Lover is still so insanely high :deadbanana2:

If swifties alone were responsible for her albums charting high then I can guarantee you Lover would not be her highest charting catalog album

Taylor is just the largest western example of the phenomena present in all of stan culture. Like you are aware that the BTS stans might be a cult, but if there isn't a study on it maybe they aren't :duck: The only difference between the BTS stans and other kpop stans is also just the amount of them, they are able to pull that off because of the numerical advantage they have. Gaga used to have that kind of influence too, I lived through the collective craze of 2013 :dies:

A longer album doesn't guarantee the listener will play it in full, the streams difference between the original version and the anthology is pretty clear. But that's irrelevant, if you exclude the streams of both Taylor still has the edge in pure sales.

I think Billies mistake in this was not sticking to the script that she started off with. We wouldn't be having these discussions if she sincerely didn't care about the charts, because the album itself is great.

Are you trying to say Gaga doesn't have a cult-like fanbase that lives through her achievements even if they are half a decade old? :suburban:

Yes. If an artist is only a few thousand units away from top 3 (and potentially a #1) and the fan base can't come together to secure those extra copies, they don't have a cult-like fanbase that lives through their faves achievements :michael:

So according to your own logic, Taylor missing the #1 against SZA by a few thousand copies in January of last year means she doesn't have a cult-like fanbase :ryan3:

How are TOP doing that much, I really thought they faded after Stressed Out

I listened to the album and it's really good, but it's mostly driven by their fanbase

Didn't blurryface get blocked by 1989 in 2015? :dies:

EDIT: they debuted at #1 and blocked 1989 from another week on top after sweeping the BBMAs / Bad Blood :deadbanana4:

Can't say you haven't tried!

Maybe it had something to do with the fact that it was 11th week since the release, so a majority of the base didn't have any cash left after she drained you for 10 weeks straight? :katie:

West Side Story spent 54 weeks at number 1.

Thriller is the second one, with 37 weeks at number 1 methinks.
