Punky Rooster Posted May 28 Posted May 28 (edited) Often looked over in such a huge and diverse career, Madonna's cover of 'American Pie' is almost the perfect Madonna song, even with it being a cover. It's almost as the track was made for her, with lyrics like "and I knew that if I had my chance, I could make those people dance, and maybe they'd be happy for awhile..." sets out Madonna's ability to capture people's attention, forget their troubles for an hour or two, and make them dance and sing (get up and do your thing). Also the visuals in the video perfectly capture American life circa 1999/2000. Agree? Edited May 28 by Punky Rooster 7 1
Popular Post Vegvisir Posted May 28 Popular Post Posted May 28 I remember going to my guitar teacher with that soundtrack on cd and asking if he could teach me "the new madonna song" Actual footage of his reaction: 23
Poxy Posted May 28 Posted May 28 Thank you Rupert Everett for convincing her to record this it's so good! The ROL era vocals are perfect and add to its charm of being melancholic dance bop.
Nightingale Posted May 28 Posted May 28 It's one of her best songs. The way she makes this a dance song is so iconic 2
Karla Cabello Posted May 28 Posted May 28 i hate the original and this one and i hate america but i like her vocals here 1 2
Bubble Tea Posted May 28 Posted May 28 An absolutely gorgeous cover, she ate it the f**k up. QUEEN of pop behaviour.
Oktober Knight Posted May 28 Posted May 28 It's so good and was actually quite popular when it came out. It's a shame it's forgotten now and she doesn't acknowledge it
pisuke Posted May 28 Posted May 28 It's not that forgotten. I listen to it from time to time on the radio and in stores. Even Don McLean praised her version and defended her from the stupid and tasteless haters.
Prodigal Self Posted May 28 Posted May 28 You are right, it is forgotten. Though it's neither misunderstood nor a classic. 1
