Digitalism Posted May 27 Posted May 27 I mean she can do whatever she wants but why would she say this publicly. She is kinda late into this conversation. Songs have been short and bridgeless for years now. Why is she bringing this up now as if it means something.
bad guy Posted May 27 Posted May 27 Love some of her songs and I guess this works for her but if everyone followed that we would never get this: Like I can't imagine a world without SONGS. 3
Dante Silva Posted May 27 Posted May 27 (edited) I do not agree with her. Music is supposed to take you on a journey. I can't help but think her opinion is informed by having grown up during the Streaming/ TikTok age where her exposure to contemporary music has been heavily edited by the demands of TikTok. It is so sad that the exposure she has received from heavily edited music has informed her opinion and made her believe 2 mins 30 secs is a nostalgic norm for her generation, so much so that she doesn't even understand the concept of getting pleasure from longer arrangements to the point that she actively wishes to maintain such short song durations in her own work. I feel sorry for her. Edited May 27 by Dante Silva
Taste of Honey Posted May 27 Posted May 27 Bridges are so essential to music, and they can be the absolute defining moment of a song. They can bring movement, urgency, uncertainty, humor, a respite, so many things. They can transform what is a very good song into a classic record. Even though the lengths are slightly little longer than what she's saying, eternal sunshine is a great modern example that songs can be concise AND well conceptualized. Many of those songs have bridges even though you might not expect them to with their runtimes, and they benefit greatly from them. 13
Cloudy Posted May 27 Posted May 27 (edited) First of all **** her!! Second lock her ass and throw away the key. Edited May 27 by Cloudy 1
Stepfon Posted May 27 Posted May 27 Well, no, this isn't true, and I wish the younger generation of artists would stop this way of thinking. 1
blackoutbritney Posted May 27 Posted May 27 The bridge on songs usually being my favorite part…….. jail 1
UnusualBoy Posted May 27 Posted May 27 So she basically loves ringtones, girl bye, just say you're lazy and call it a day. 1 1
Cheers Posted May 27 Posted May 27 Can you guys stop pretending her music is good just because you like her aesthetic? 1 1 2
K$Ellie Posted May 27 Posted May 27 people are always annoying and defensive over this topic but her songs work just fine at 2:30, it's only an issue when the song feels half baked but that doesn't apply to all short songs 2
Bussea Posted May 27 Posted May 27 (edited) i feel like it's a case by case thing some songs needs to be more than two, but there are some that actually get the job done… … but im so sick of the whole EVERY song being 2 minutes thing but she's completely wrong on the bridge thing. It can absolutely can make or break a song tbhhhhh Edited May 27 by BLΔCKP!NK
bielneira Posted May 27 Posted May 27 I don't think that the length of a song is related to its quality, so if an artist can release great songs in 2:30 minutes, that's not a problem. Not usually the case tho.
