The average album's Metascore is 73. So any album below that is technically below average. 

 

For 2024, of 140 ranked albums, only 3 are 60 or below. 

It would be odd to believe that being the 4th worst album, in the bottom 3%, would be a positive thing.

 

For 2023, of 335 ranked albums, only 4 are 60 or below.

I also don't think being in the bottom 2%, aka the 5th worst album, is a reason to celebrate.

 

it's not like movies, where 7% of films this year are actually at 40 or below

None of these albums were released in 2023/2024 though. And we all know that pop criticism today isn't what is was 10+ years ago, to judge them by today's standards is ridiculous and by those years's standards anything above 60 was not panned at all.

Teenage Dream, it's hit after hit and for the most part even the album tracks are great. I truly don't get why it got such a low score back then.

61-80: Generally Positive
81+ : Universal Acclaim

OT: Teenage Dream, by far

OOTB got a 47 and yielded IKAG, but was released in 2008.
