Dash_inthedark
6 hours ago, dumbsparce said: Yes! There's a renewed interest in her that I feel like was absent during HTE. Maybe it's just me though. There was definitely some lack of interest in HTE, mostly driven by the widespread criticism she faced at that time. It was a tough period and all the negativity managed to put many people off the album for a while. However, her fans remained loyal, and the quality of the music is undeniable, whether you like it or not. Additionally, the tour was exceptional, and everyone who saw her live gained a new perspective on the album. I'm biased because the album meant a lot to me, it came out during a time when I was struggling, and it was incredibly important to me personally. Sure, HMHS sounds more like a follow-up to WWAFA, but it also reflects her growth as a person. She was 18-19 when she wrote HTE, having just won all the awards she could dream of, and like anyone at that age she was struggling to figure out who she was as a person. She dealt with insane fame, stalkers and the inability to do normal teenage things, all while facing a pandemic that forced us all to stop everything and stay home without knowing what the future held. She called it an identity crisis album which sounds very on point. But I think it was necessary to reach the level of HMHS. Every step was essential, in my opinion, to get to where we are now.

Blackout2006
20 hours ago, bad guy said: Had a conversation with boomer coworker today and somehow music got brought up and he mentioned listening to the album and enjoying it. As bad as he thinks music is now he mentioned Billie (and Lana) as great modern artists. Her cross generational appeal needs to be studied. No because I've seen so many boomers genuinely appreciate and enjoy Billie's music. Their interest in Lana makes sense because she borrows a lot from the sonic landscape of the 1950s-1970s but yea, Billie's cross generational appeal is truly an anomaly since she makes music that's relatively contemporary and not accommodating of your go-to boomer's taste in music iygwim.
