ThousandMiles Posted May 19 Posted May 19 These main pop girls were at their prime in 2016, some may call it their comebacks, or others may say the peak of their careers. But little did we know that this was actually the last time we would see the girls serving like this. Giving the gays what they wanted.. Britney and Rihanna were both on a career high, Britney had dropped her last album to date (Glory) serving body and energy that we hadn't seen in a while, and Rih was touring her most acclaimed album to date (Anti).. but they would both soon go into music retirement, and still haven't released albums almost 10 years later. Selena was touring her best album Revival, serving true pop star.. but would eventually never tour or perform live again. Beyoncé was promoting her AOTY nominated album Lemonade, performing at award shows like the Grammys, VMAs, BET, and CMAs. Beyoncé nowadays does not promote her albums at all, drop visuals, or perform live at award shows.. giving the Beyhive crumbs without a care. Fans have never felt so distant from the artist than they do today. So what happened to the pop girls in 2016? Was it a cursed year, or the last good year of pop music? 3 1

TitanicSurvivor Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Selena's most streamed songs and first #1 single were all released after 2016 be for f***ing real 2
visions Posted May 19 Posted May 19 2 of them are retired, Selena had the 2nd biggest song of 2023, and Beyoncé is still smashing and shouldn't be included in this 4
Erreur2 La Nature Posted May 19 Posted May 19 I do not really get the comparison. Rihanna and Britney yeah because they're basically retired. Selena Gomez and Beyoncé are still VERY active. 1
Sabrina Carpenter Posted May 19 Posted May 19 i was expecting people like Hailee Steinfeld or Daya, not those people 1

SleepingTigers Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Selena literally had a number 1 after this. And Calm Down was a global smash. Beyoncé of course is Beyoncé. 1
goverm3nth0ker Posted May 19 Posted May 19 beyoncé and selena are doing just fine, cant say the same about the other two..
Riverbank Posted May 19 Posted May 19 The only accurate one in this list is Britney, except her downfall happened way before 2016

Fans have never felt so distant from the artist than they do today. In the time since Lemonade Beyoncé has given fans: TWO acclaimed studio albums A collaborative rap album A soundtrack album One of the most acclaimed, talked about, and impactful concerts of our times An associated live album A visual album Two world tours Three remix singles (two of which went #1) I would not describe any of these as "crumbs" individually and certainly together releasing five albums, two tours and one visual album is not giving fans "crumbs". Sure, she's reduced her promotion to the amount of basically nothing, but I don't really think that's the most important thing an artist should be giving their fans. First and foremost it's great music, and that Beyoncé has delivered. 2
