Feanor Posted May 15 Posted May 15 (edited) Quote Swift has become the first artist in U.S. history to hit 100 million equivalent album units, according to Luminate Forbes Luminate, formerly known as Nielsen Soundscan, has been tracking US sales since 1991 till now. So that's 100M units across album pure sales, digital & physical track sales and video/audio streams. Edited May 15 by Feanor 7
gustavothehuman Posted May 15 Posted May 15 How much did Madonna sold in the US? Doesn't 100 million make Taylor the best-selling female artist now?

I can't find a good, straightforward answer to Madonna's domestic totals (perhaps someone else reading this thread could assist ), but I believe the top spot was Mariah Carey anyway. 2
Soda Pop Queen Posted May 15 Posted May 15 Quote Luminate, formerly known as Nielsen Soundscan, wait... when and why did the company change its name?? Is this brand new or I just been out of the loop?
Mrnoniee Posted May 15 Posted May 15 Erm isn't it Brit Brit? why Nellysun lying through their yellow teeth? 1

Just going off memory Mariah is second among women with somewhere between 75-80mm Madonna is somewhere in the 60-70mm range I believe. 1
Miss Show Business Posted May 15 Posted May 15 (edited) So she's the first artist in the Soundscan era to achieve this... An important distinction. Edit: This sounded dumb but the Soundscan name change confused me Edited May 15 by Miss Show Business
By the Water Posted May 15 Posted May 15 How is this possible? I was told Taylor was barely undercertified 1

ATRL Moderator Bloo Posted May 15 ATRL Moderator Posted May 15 Yes, but do we know how many of these sales were by the GP? Otherwise this number means nothing. /s 1
elincomprendid Posted May 16 Posted May 16 It's so annoying that these numbers are useless cause of the lack of public official information regarding artists Like yeah 100M is huge but let us be aware of were is the rest of the people, they treat the numbers as if it was federal info 2
Cruel Summer Posted May 16 Posted May 16 She's literally unstoppable in the US. What a legend It's neat that she's the only artist ever to do this during the era of actually relatively reliable consumption metrics. I think it'll be interesting to see how high she goes. Unfortunately, it seems like getting to the top spot of all time might be difficult for her, looking at how The Beatles are certified for 183 million album shipments without including singles, and RIAA certifications are probably as close as we're going to get for total pre-Luminate figures. Sad that we may never have a full picture of reality. 1
FailSafe Posted May 16 Posted May 16 I don't have much units about album units but if I'm understanding things correctly, she basically sold 100 million album units across 10 albums? So Taylor sells 10 million copies per album? That's awesome.

Edit: This sounded dumb but the Soundscan name change confused me The only conceivable artists who could compare pre-Soundscan Era are Beatles and MJ. Probably only Beatles, since they are the third best-selling of the Soundscan Era last I saw.

The last estimates I think I have seen: Debut: 7m Fearless: 14m combined Speak Now 10m combined Red: 12m combined 1989: 17m combined Rep: 7m Lover: 8m folklore: 7m evermore: 3.5m Midnights: 7m TTPD: 3.5 this adds up to 96m: add on some sales since the last estimates and some rounding errors and it could easily be at 100m. 1

stevyy Posted May 16 Posted May 16 Madonna / Mariah are quite tied on actual albums sales in the US, both at above 80 million. Streisand is the biggest female albums artist in the US at 95m. CM: 71,260,000 - Madonna 72,828,000 - Mariah Carey 41,874,000 - Taylor 1 1 1
