i know it's all a bit of fun but it just seems so random that a bunch of industry types have sat there and said "what is the 85th best record ever made? it is golden hour! it's official!"

This is how I feel when I look at it too logically. Like I do really just take these as fun. But then sometimes when I really think about it, it is very odd

87. Blue Lines - Massive Attack

Great to see Massive Attack in there. I wonder if this was the pick because Blue Lines is considered to be the first trip hop album. In many ways I prefer Mezzanine, although I'm giving Protection a re-listen at the moment.

Oh nice to see they included  Doggystyle. Snoop's discography as a whole falls on the weaker side but his debut is phenomenal. One of the best produced 90s hip hop albums ever, next to The Chronic and one of the best West Coast releases ever.

positive reactions so far: pure heroine :clap3: her best album yup.

golden hour, horses and after the gold rush are iconic as well. :heart2:  glad legend nina's getting her flowers, but pastel blues and nina simone sings the blues are even better than i put a spell on you. hope those are further up the list.

it should go without aging that this is a list of *popular* music in the Western World. It does not recognize art music or anything outside of the popular, mainstream realm. Think of it more as a ranking of the most popular mainstream successful albums of recent-ish history.

i mean, that's the charitable explanation for them at this point, the alternative (it's not there) is worse but i can fully imagine that, born to die has always only ever had grudging respect from critics

the involvement of zane lowe at any level is not really inspiring confidence tbh

i'd expect faith to do best of his big three? i think older is very songwriterly but there's not many bangers tbh

Like nobody looked at that and thought "you know what, we reserve the right to make slight adjustments" really?
