Lose My Breath Posted May 22 Posted May 22 I will say there are some issues with the list. Lana Del Rey's NFR deserves MUCH higher placement - Swift is way too high with 1989, and overall it's probably the wrong album Also, Fiona Apple being MIA is upsetting. Tori Amos probably deserves some of the spotlight, too with Little Earthquakes 4 1
Goaty Posted May 22 Posted May 22 Wait how did I miss Disintegration at #56? My fave album of all time
Kristie Kuwa Posted May 22 Posted May 22 (edited) People being shocked that the Peabody rewarded work of art is in the Top10 nnnn Just because racist and JEALOUS Grammy voters failed Bey bigtime that night, doeant mean she doesnt deserve ALL the praise for Lemonade Edited May 22 by Kristie Kuwa 5
Goaty Posted May 22 Posted May 22 I do wish Bey wasn't the only female w/ multiple entries. Janet and Madonna should be on there twice as well 1
Lose My Breath Posted May 22 Posted May 22 Why is Jewel's early work always overlooked for these lists as well? She was almost entirely the sole writer for her entire debut album, and it's very strong and had a large impact pushing folk music to the forefront? Honestly, I would even go as far to say that Jewel was a catalyst for people like Taylor Swift 1 1

Damien M Posted May 22 Posted May 22 1. Ray of Light missing the list entirely is WILD 2. No Mariah?? 3. Janet with only one entry is bizarre. Where's Rhythm Nation or All for You? 4. The elevation of Lauryn Hill over Lil Kim in Hip Hop needs to be studied, REEKS of respectability politics. 1
Unreachable101 Posted May 22 Posted May 22 Beyonce is the DEI pick as per usual - both overrated albums. 22
Jamie Starr Posted May 22 Posted May 22 If any artist deserved a second placement on this list it's Bowie
kellysclarkson Posted May 22 Posted May 22 The fact that people are still mad about this when this is SUCH an uncontroversial list is funny. 7

Right? if you follow lists these are usual suspects with celebrated contemporary choices… just switching positions from other similar lists you'd think an obscure artist or something made it lol people showing they dont even have the energy to research anglo music canon beyond their pop faves and thinking it's a serve or somethin🫣 1

The Cowboy album is the most acclaimed MPG album this year but has some of the lowest streams for an MPG album despite having 2-3x the number of songs as other albums, which says something. Yea it says she's a 40-something year old woman who has been making music for nearly 30 years and released an album that holds a mirror up to the mistreatment of her people in a genre they pioneered. Music is not less valid for not appealing to Tiktok generation. Besides streaming figures have nothing to do with critic lists. Take it to the billboard thread if you are so bothered. 2 1
Stepfon Posted May 22 Posted May 22 The way social media is dragging Frank now because of this list and I KNOW he doesn't even know or care. The top two albums are perfection and classics that have stood the test of time, I cannot be mad about them at all. 2

Her last 4 consecutive albums have ended up top 5 most acclaimed in their respective release years. Go make your own "valid" list. 1

This forum has an issue with realizing that other genres exist and they have their own classics and lists like these are the wake up call that is not because something isn't consumed by every demographic or the majority that impact and relevance don't exist. Right at the start they were expecting multiple entries and pop girls, but it just doesn't compute to them that soul artists, rap artists, alt artists, rock artists are not getting their inspiration only from GP songs and albums, especially when this idea of GP that floats around here are white centered and straight. Once they realize that they will face that a lot of the things they call smash or flop make ZERO sense. From the beginning this list showed balance among genres. Pop was never to overdominate. If anything alternative kinda lost space from ten years ago, but it's natural. Hip Hop and R&B records are rightfully growing in acclaim after decades of ignorance. If you dn't like the genre don't speak on it. For those that do there was hardly a controversial choice Edited May 22 by liquiddiamonds 6
Kimi Posted May 22 Posted May 22 (edited) some of my faves made it, many did not, but even for those that did make it a lot of the picks were quite basic. Overall i don't think this list brings anything new to how we look at canon. Booooring. Edited May 22 by Kimi 1 1

Jay07 Posted May 22 Posted May 22 The racist meltdowns over Beyonce being top ten... people not even knowing who Lauryn Hill is... no wonder a certain type of artist dominates around here. 10 1 1
