naval23 Posted May 12 Posted May 12 Yes. The fact it was released almost a year prior to "Flowers" and ended up being ahead in daily streams 9 months after "Flowers" says so much about its longevity

This makes no sense. Just because YouTube doesn't hold the same power it did years ago, it doesn't diminish the fact that Despacito has 8.4b streams on there. You're being obtuse just because you want Harry Styles to hold the title of having the biggest streaming hit Is Thriller not a mammoth album just because people don't sell pure album sales anymore? By your analogy, Justin Bieber's Justice album is bigger than Thriller because it's bigger on Spotify and because pure sales are dead Edited May 12 by Saintlor 1

I'd say Justice is definitely a bigger streaming album than Thriller.

But the idea of my post is that you're discrediting a whole 8.4 billion streams just based on "because youtube isn't as popular as it was before" and that's your reasoning for why As It Was is a bigger streaming hit... Not to mention Blinding Lights resides as the most streamed song on Spotify. Although you say As It Was may overtake it in 3 years, you don't know what can happen in 3 years. You are discrediting people's success just because you prefer Harry Styles Edited May 12 by Saintlor 1
Lasso Posted May 12 Posted May 12 i don't know if it's the biggest streaming hit ever, but it's frankly shocking to me just how often i still hear it being played in stores and such.

It doesn't make a dent in any decent chart worldwide. Nobody goes #1 on any official chart because they have a lot of YouTube views. In fact, Despacito went #1 in the US because of Justin Bieber's remix, which doesn't have an official music video. The original version didn't chart in the US at all. This is Luis Fonsi's entire Billboard chart history: Despacito is a huge streaming hit because it has 1.7 billion Spotify streams. Not because of YouTube. We can argue if it's fair or unfair, but that's how it works. YouTube, despite being a major platform for streaming music, was never taken seriously as such and never impacted charts majorly. If a song is big on Spotify, it's likely it'll chart. Also, As It Was isn't just big on Spotify. We just can't know other platform's stats, but If it becomes the biggest song on Spotify, then it's the biggest hit of the streaming era, considering it was also #1 for 15 weeks in the US, 10 weeks in the UK, and also a ton of weeks in Canada, Australia, and a ton of other countries. 1 2

Dusk Till Dawn has 2.1 billion streams but it's not a bigger hit than Pillowtalk. Nice try tho.
