toughlikeglue Posted May 12 Posted May 12 So far, "Espresso" is shaping up to be this year's only biggest hit. I thought "Yes, And?" would be that girl but I was so wrong. 1 1
Erreur2 La Nature Posted May 12 Posted May 12 Quote we've already had inescapable hits in all previous years Not true lol, several of the most recent years were kinda hitless during the summer
LastGreatBloodline Posted May 12 Posted May 12 I don't like how you paint me, yet I'm still here hanging There's a tornado in my city, hit the basement, that sh*t ain' pretty I'm working late, 'cause I'm a singer I love you, it's ruining my life Tryna strike a chord and it's probably A minorrrrr etc
Dialamba Posted May 12 Posted May 12 Too much hits that there isn't a strong contender besides probably beautiful things.
popularmoonlight Posted May 13 Posted May 13 Espresso is an actual big hit in my opinion. Everyone talks about it. There's opinions left and right about how good or how bad it is. It will be song of the summer definitely.
babyforlife Posted May 13 Posted May 13 Too Sweet I Like The Way You Kiss Me We cant be friends also Espresso (i feel like it becomes big due to payola)
Eternium Posted May 13 Posted May 13 6 hours ago, Junipero said: This is the truth. I used to think the same thing back in 2015 and I thought "What happened to the superstars? Do famous people still exist? Music nowadays sucks" and then I realized I was living under a rock/I outgrew popular culture. Kind of funny because I did not know about "stan culture" until I was no longer into popular culture. I'm here now due to nostalgia lol. To answer OP: Isn't "Million Dollar Baby" the top song right now? And Espresso? and "I Like the way you Kiss Me"? That's the thing - a smash transcends genres and generations and is known by everyone. Some great examples would be "Rolling In The Deep," "…Baby One More Time," "Like A Virgin," etc. Those are phenomena and don't just happen all the time. We have plenty of big hits this year, but nothing truly is a phenomenon yet. The closest thing we have to a true phenomenon in the Western world is Taylor Swift. 1
Just a Gay on ATRL Posted May 13 Posted May 13 Okay THIS year this topic is straight up not going to fly. Music is on FIRE right now. 2024 has been the most fun/competitive year for music in literally like a decade. Regarding the phenomenon argument, Kendrick's diss tracks are quite literally a musical phenomenon unfolding before our ears. 2 1
skyandground Posted May 13 Posted May 13 (edited) Only a very strong ballad with mass appeal can transcend generations, ethnicities and nationalities. Right now the reach of the current English-language hits is quite limited outside of the Anglosphere. Edited May 13 by skyandground
