Galah Posted May 10 Posted May 10 Feels weird to be very pro-tech but also pro-preservation. That poor piano, destroyed and for what? They could have donated all of this stuff to people instead. Not a fan, but I wouldn't have been buying anyway so it's whatever. 1
Arthoe Posted May 10 Posted May 10 The biggest outcry I think was from the musician community that lamented how apple can just destroy musical instruments worth multiple million dollars for FUN while music conservatories are so underfunded, they can barely get their hands on guitar strings cuz there's no money to spend. 1 1

There's probably someone on stage smashing a guitar somewhere every day. I think it's more of an optics issue, seeing Apple's corporate boot literally crush the art community as if they weren't struggling enough from the rise of AI Sure iPad is a powerful tool for art but it's not gonna replace the experience of hearing a live performance for example. I guess a good comparison would be if the ad crushed Apple's own products to show that an iPhone can be a computer, a phone, an ipod, a small iPad etc. But they wouldn't want to send the message that everything else in their lineup is obsolete. 4 1

Comedor Posted May 10 Posted May 10 They are basically compressing all those creative tools into a tablet. That's what I got from the ad. Touch grass. 7 1 1
Asscatchem Posted May 10 Posted May 10 the controversy was obviously intentional. the fact that it's still live on tim cook's twitter and apple's youtube even after the "apology" and announcement to pull the ad, only for it to garner more attention than ever. the skinniest apple product ever won. androids stay fat, slow and date-deterring 2 2
Aaron Posted May 10 Posted May 10 So weird that some people in here think not being offended by this = "capitalist Apple stan!!1" Just no critical thinking whatsoever 1 2 1

Redstreak Posted May 10 Posted May 10 It really feels like society dropped a couple collective grade levels after the pandemic 1
EndofASadMovie Posted May 10 Posted May 10 It looks like a normal ad, straight to the point. But it's the era of thinkpieces so everything is problematic.
stoopidjenna Posted May 10 Posted May 10 Condemning technology by tweeting from their phones... Do writers wish we were still using typewriters and quills? 1
frankvert Posted May 10 Posted May 10 More faux outrage from soft, over sensitive keyboard warriors 1 1 1
DemDam92 Posted May 10 Posted May 10 lmao crying over an ad that destroys some instruments while eating at McDonald's and buying clothes for 3 $ made in Bangladesh. Twitter giving hypocrisy again 1
ATRL Moderator Bloo Posted May 10 ATRL Moderator Posted May 10 The ad is fine. The “outrage” is so over the top. 2

Doogle Posted May 10 Posted May 10 I feel like people are valid if they hate the ad for having a bad message. It's just not effective what they're trying to convey because it feels soulless and actually kinda sad lmao. I don't think people need to "touch grass" over this because it's not offensive it's just a bit cold and boring. People think any backlash now means it's some offended SJW when I think people just think the advert sucks. idk maybe some people took it too far, I left Twitter years ago 1
St. Charles Posted May 10 Posted May 10 I think it's fair to say the ad could be a bit tone deaf… but of course Twitter gets ramped up over very little. Find something better to do.
aesthetic bih Posted May 10 Posted May 10 I hate ads where it involves wasting food or destroying perfectly functioning stuff, so the lashing are warranted I fear! 1 1
gatito Posted May 10 Posted May 10 i thought it was lame when i first saw the presentation but never in a million years expected this kind of backlash over it
