*remove all judgement where possible pls - this is solely for conversation sake*

I've been seeing a guy for the past few months and he admitted to me that he has a gambling addiction. He has a 40k loan for his gambling and is still actively gambling. Interested to hear some outside perspective if it's something I should be overly concerned about? Should I end things? HELP

I'd date them casually but not seriously.

nope. gambling as a recreational activity is fun and all until it gets serious. 40k loan for gambling is insane and it'll get to you eventually. end things now when he's still sane :rip:

If he was hot and we had good chemistry I'd hook up with him and chill with him/grab drinks occasionally/whatever. But no way in HELL would I go any deeper that would get me attached, because linking your finances to that is just asking for a life of misery.

Look at ex-Real Housewife Kim Zolciak that blew through her and her NFL husband's entire fortune on overspending and gambling addictions

dating anyone who is an addict (drug addict, sex addict, p*rn, gambling, etc.) have personal demons & struggles they won't fix til they are ready on their own terms. addicts could potentially disrespect, use you, or cause harm to scratch that itch.

in conclusion: keep it light but don't waste your time.

hell no.

once they get access to your account or you need to rely on them to pay their half of the bills and you find out they're in 6 figure debt

Are they good?

lol jk but ther is levels to that. Would I date someone who blows thousands on the regular? No.

would I date someone who gambles on weekends? Probably.

both can be addictions.

also what's the difference if someone is spending their money on machines when most gays blow their money on partying and drugs. Low key an upgrade.

Pretty much what everyone else said...if it's not too serious, sure, but I would definitely not settle down with them for the long term. I budget diligently and highly value financial stability/security, so this would be a dealbreaker for me. Plus I think a gambling addiction is probably a byproduct of other issues.

Only if they used their winnings to buy me things. :cm:

Not I wouldn't even date them casually. I have no debt and don't wish to risk becoming attached to someone with 40k debt and nothing to show for it. Like if that was student loans or medical debt that's one thing, but gambling? And he's still accruing debt currently? No.

No. As someone who've had 3 men in my family that had that awful addiction and saw what, their families went through..

It's the worst addiction. Debts, trouble and anger. I've met many addicts like them and they never get back on track. (again, not judging but it's my experience.)

Sad to say but all three of them died in a heart attack at their 40s from the stress of the debt. (not genetics)

That's not a life i would want for myself. I am sorry to be brutally honest but i wanted to at least let you know in case you do decide to give it a go.

Absolutely not. I wouldn't even want anything to do with someone like that, honestly, because I'd be insanely aggravated the very first time they ask me for money. And you know they will.

A 40k debt is so extreme. I don't gamble but some friends do. Who do you know who's spending 40k at the casino? Give them my number bb.

Thats not the case for most people with a gambling addiction

anyone throwing that money away is unhinged or can afford it. And rich crazy men are my type. I make good money but I'm not spending 40k at a casino. So ya. I'd smash. I'll pick the guy spending 40k over the coke head at the bar.
