Mr. Duff Posted May 8 Posted May 8 The fact that Dua has great physical sales is proof she has somehow built a fanbase. Small, but it's there. Too bad it's the GP that said no to her now. Longevity will be a struggle. 7
IBeMe Posted May 8 Posted May 8 it's a good thing her sales increased. It just shows that the GP isnt checking for her this era BUT the fan base is growing a little bit which is always important for long term success for any popgirl. That said, they need to REALLY get one hit single off of this record or the total SPS in the US and globally will be ridiculously miniscule. Watcha Doing Remix featuring some big name can help and also These Walls if her label pushes it to AC and HAC radio have potential to do something for the record 1
Mr. Duff Posted May 9 Posted May 9 I totally missed this, but Taylor doing almost 300k on her third week is astounding. Can she block Billie Eilish?

I would say it's kind of possible, but that's technically two chart weeks away still - Billie should be okay. Taylor has some new physicals on sale right now, but they won't ship until the end of the month. HTE did about 238k, and it doesn't seem like Taylor will be that high in two more weeks. Seems like she's laying the groundwork for more weeks at #1 on less competitive weeks, though. Plus, Billie seems to have people engaged with this era, after WWIMF and the Coachella stuff - people seem excited. 3

Accumulating physical sales over time in order to strategically ship them to ensure more weeks at the summit explicitly goes agains the spirit of the charts. Anybody in support of album bombs being allowed on the Hot 100 because it's supposed "reflect the most popular songs of that week " should be outraged by this tactic. The minuscule amount of people who still consume their music solely through physical media have no material impact on the charts if we were to remove their consumption. I guarantee that. But catering to this tiny group of people (by counting physical sales) allows manipulation such as the one described by the Taylor fan I replied to. So yeah, abolish this outdated way of measuring popularity. Sorry Linda Perhacs.

BnPac Posted May 10 Posted May 10 52k pure is good. It does prove that she managed to build somewhat of a stanbase in the US too. 6
kimberly Posted May 10 Posted May 10 outselling TTPD in pure sales is massive, actually. wow, I'm surprised and blown away. I didn't think she would be able to outsell the k-pop group, even
BlackoutZone Posted May 10 Posted May 10 She kinda won in the end Cute US numbers and great WW numbers 1
