Why do y'all obsess over critics? Is it that hard to enjoy music for what it is? :rip:

This, yall need to be more Optimistic and not pay as much attention to that stuff and just enjoy the music

maybe a reverse TTPD experience can move the score on MC up to a nice 88.

Reminder that Teenage Dream by Katy Perry got 52 on Metacritic. Now would you class one of the most celebrated female album cycles of all time a 52? Exactly.

I feel like it's only recently critics have been nicer to pop girls, I remember in the early 10s pop always got AWFUL rankings. Make your own mind up and enjoy it!

This era is just so bland so I'm not surprised, scared to listen to the album now :dancehall:

I think this is a very fair score for a slightly above average generic pop album. It's all around good. I'd personally give 6/10 but 7/10 is ok with me. Glad poptimism and the, in general, trend of giving anything a 3/5 at the lowest is coming to an end. 5/10 to me indicates an average album. 8+ should be reserved for genuinely great albums and 9+ for undeniable classics... not just anything that ticks all the boxes of being serviceable.

Critical evaluation doesn't equal to enjoyment necessarily. People love eating garbage food like chips because they're addictive and easy. Same with most pop music. Doesn't make it anything special from an art perspective. This is why fans should disregard critique unless they genuinely care about quality of art (most don't and that's ok, pop is made to be a consumable product for the masses).

Oh yeah of course, I meant in the sense like to not just cancel the album upon arrival cos it's not getting universal acclaim. Agree that if Pop should be exacltly what it says on the tin (POPULAR music)

All of this to say I hope you're okay @Solaria

Damn. So Taylor really started poptismism with 1989 and ended it with TTPD :suburban:

Wait, you all think poptimism started with 1989?

Agreed! What I think is interesting is how people here are deeming a 70/10 a "flop" in any sense... a flop imo would be something below a 50 because a 70 reads like "pretty good, nice job". I think our brains are rotted by how highly praised very basic pop has been recently (mostly to give publications better success). We've in a way become disillusioned by dishonest criticism that now we think anything below an 85 is a flop :rip:

Deserves below 70 imo. Sounds like cheap Eurovision songs.

A drop to 67/100...

It being the 6th most panned album of the year so far..

The review that called her a "default Sim (popstar expansion pack version)"...

I can't believe what I'm seeing :deadbanana4: This is a Dua Lipa pop album in 2024 getting destroyed left and right, holy damn

It did. It was the start of critics being much less harsh on pure pop albums/albums by the big pop girls

Dua Lipa is proof that how we critique music is broken

Oh, that's not poptimism, though. The actual concept of poptimism preceded 1989 by a decade. It was already facing a backlash by 2014.

Her stuff just takes time to smash. It'll be acclaimed in a few months. :gayalipacat3:
