Two blockbuster albums that have been credited for popularizing dance-pop sounds in the US. But which is better? And which deserves the credit?

The Fame musically does not come close to FSLS. Timberlake gave us a whole sound that was not popular in US yet. Gaga jumped on the train that was starting to take off. US artist jumped on the "dance pop" train because they wanted a #1 in the UK.

There was also the "Prince-ly sound" that took over R&B after Justin's 'Until the End of Time' came out. Love him, hate him... he that album was definitely the future sound.

Gaga for all. The Fame/Fame Monster are legendary.

Making this poll and looking at the streaming numbers made me realize we failed as a society when we made SexyBack a bigger hit than My Love.

I never listened to FSLS so I can't choose. Musically they're two different things. Justin was always staying on the r&b music lane while Gaga was doing europop/dancepop/edm, etc. two different products. A better comparison would be The END vs The Fame and FSLS vs loose or blackout

How would you know they're different if you never listened to one of them?

My Love and SexyBack are clearly inspired by dance music.

Quote

I heard dance and techno and was always interested in it but didn't really know where to go. But I went to a club one night and saw that people were losing their mind to these dance tracks. It wasn't really that I wanted to mimic that sound. I just wanted to have that energy and have people going crazy. So I knew the fusion was putting R&B with trance. As soon as I put the boom-boom-kack, I knew it. - Danja, 2006

FS/LS and Blackout (both children of Danja) have more in common with The Fame and The E.N.D. than Loose, which followed Timbaland's traditional sound.

Sexyback and My Love are Electro-R&B songs with hip hop elements, while the songs from The Fame/The End are euro-pop and dance pop. They sound nothing like. The Loose singles were very similar, especially Promisicous and Say It Right. Which makes sense since they're from the same year and follow the same music trend.

1. FutureSex/LoveSounds is the better album imo.

2. Poker Face is the superior smash hit.

3. The Fame popularized dance pop and this is in conversations constantly as the catalyst for the resurgence of it.
