supertiffany Posted April 28 Posted April 28 what should Taylor do more to beat Adele's record? her latest album had 18 variants formats 2 months preorder 31 songs what should Taylor do more to beat Adele's record? 14
KatyPrismSpirit Posted April 28 Posted April 28 (edited) Adele's record will never be broken. But I think that 2.61M (of which 860k vinyls) in 2024 is just as impressive as selling 3.4M albums in CD's and digital album downloads in 2015. Let's remember that a vinyl gets sold for $35 and CD's are only $11 most of the time Edited April 28 by KatyPrismSpirit 7 4 8
Burn Posted April 28 Posted April 28 She can't and even if she did, doing it with 30+ tracks, variants etc is a fraudulent way of going about it and wouldn't compare to how impressive it was for Adele to achieve it without all those shenanigans. 13 1 1
Strawberry Bubble Posted April 28 Posted April 28 Start dating Cristiano Ronaldo or Messi, break up with them, and then write an album focussed on that relationship (?). Just kidding. I don't think it is possible to beat that record. Her heyday and popularity in the US is unmatched, and she is already at her 11th album, so she's not a fresh and new artist for the GP to start massively buying her music (like what happened with Adele back in 2015). If Taylor in her peak is not able to beat this record, no one will can. 1 4 1
Shelter Posted April 28 Posted April 28 Maybe 50 songs, 30 variants, better music. Adele did it so effortlessly. 10 1 4 1
Timeless Posted April 28 Posted April 28 (edited) Not even Adele can break her own record or even crack a 1M+ debut again, so Taylor doing this in 2024 is already so highly impressive Edited April 28 by Timeless 1 7 4
dawnettakins Posted April 28 Posted April 28 Have vocal talent, make an actually good quality record, and take a break/few years to actually get inspired and make something genuinely good rather than churning out and releasing every little turd you make in the studio and releasing it without an editor in tow. Because we can tell! 9 4

You can probably divide Taylor's sales by 4 and get the real number. So Adele still wins. 27 1 1 2

A Million Lights Posted April 28 Posted April 28 TTPD numbers make me realize how Adele was iconic in 2015 like omg 4

Adele's highly anticipated comeback album did 839k units first week with MULTIPLE variants. Only around 100k difference between the 2 Yeah Taylor still wins Edited April 28 by Timeless 5 2 6
ATRL Moderator MissedTheTrain Posted April 28 ATRL Moderator Posted April 28 Literally who cares. 2.6 million in 2024, after having the list of massive other debuts she's had, is utterly insane. Adele is likely going to keep that record forever and good for her, that album was huge. 4 1

Every one knows Adele doesn't have fans that buy multiple versions of the same album, whereas Taylor does. Now let's compare 25's first week sales and variations available to Taylor's last 8 albums, all which have failed to beat her record by a massive margin. 5 3

Fans weren't buying multiple versions of Speak Now (Taylor's Version) which didn't even have different covers on them. It just had a different disc color like 30's variants had, and it still did almost the same first-week numbers. And idgaf if Taylor didn't beat Adele's record if not even Adele could beat her own. That's a once-in-a-lifetime "you just had to be there" moment, TTPD doing 2.6M first week in the streaming era is very impressive as is Edited April 28 by Timeless 2
Cruel Summer Posted April 28 Posted April 28 She shouldn't do anything, because she doesn't need to break that record. 1
Mitsuki Posted April 28 Posted April 28 Maybe releasing another new album in few years. Unlike the record-owner, her first weeks keep growing instead of decreasing.

Adele has released one album since 25 that never reached a million sales. That doesn't mean she won't hit that milestone ever again, like you claim in a previous post. I don't think Adele cares about beating her own record. But it's clear Taylor and her fans are desperate too. God bless you. 1
waylon4ever Posted April 28 Posted April 28 Disappear completely for 3-4 years with no press or any releases.
TayDuaStan Posted April 28 Posted April 28 (edited) Honestly, she shouldn't do anything. 2.6M in the streaming age is as impressive as 25's milestone. Let Adele have that single record. After all, i don't think she'll ever reach that again, even surpassing 1M is impossible for her now. While Taylor will keep on having 1M+ debuts for years to come Edited April 28 by TayDuaStan 4 4
