Just to clarify, Shakira has 4 no.1s in Germany, 5 no.1s in Switzerland and France, 6 no.1s in Italy, 13 no.1s in Spain so not "even Shakira in some".:rip:

Best selling female artist of all time in Spain

3rd in Switzerland

Top 10 in France and Germany

(Incomplete figures in Italy for everyone so not including it)

Yup Shakira is impressive too. Not the bland one without famous songs who got fumed by what a 80s veteran group had to say.

No need to clarify or be defensive, I mean it's Shakira... Waka Waka alone (and it's not even her biggest hit?) :celestial4:

I don't think a pop forum should hail his opinion because he would most probably say the same thing about most of the pop girls.  This is the type of breed that believes in "real music" and sees pop-girl music as disposable trash.  They usually only praise pop-girls who veer away from "girly music".  Notice how he used a male legend as reference when he could have used another female artist.

That being said, I would believe this statement from an average Joe, not from him. He is British and a musician, which makes it impossible to not know at least one famous Taylor Swift song in his universe.

Apparently you know nothing about Pet Shop Boys :ahh:

Yeah right. Madonna has 13 no.1s singles there. Your favorite had only 3 in the so-called inflating streaming era.

Fewer than Ariana. Tragic.

Again No one remembers her disposable and factory-lnstalled like produced songs.

I think she should compete with Shakira with two.

:coffee2:

Only 3? I would've thought more with all her releases in the past several years since random tracks are now allowed to be apart of billboard charts.

Her audience is not 60 years olds but thanks for your research

Please, no one outside your baby sister and your mom stans let alone cares about Taylor and you know it.

None of the rest of your friends or any regular, normal, non-obsessessed people do unless you're only friends with Karens and 6 year olds.

In the UK only 3 yes. In almost all European countries she has zero no. 1. Because they dont have support systems and media backup job like the us does.

She's overhyped and inflated by the us media because of the us spotify by obsessed streaming all day machinery swifties.

Thats why there are many people who have kept telling that many people don't know her songs nor her name outside the us.

Pet shop boys said no lies either.

Truth hurt them.

I've been saying this but you have Travis Kelce coach and best friend on the team claiming she is the most famous woman in the world. I always knew her songs don't chart well overseas like that but the UK I was always under the impression that was one of her biggest markets. She'll break Madonna number 1 album record in the Uk and her fans will brag but she she wont pass her albums sales or top 10's which is the most important. Didn't she reduce the pricing of tickets in the UK?

Spotify Monthly Listeners

#2 Taylor Swift - 109.4M

#37 Katy Perry - 56.4M

#39 Lady Gaga - 56.1M

#177 BTS - 27.9M

Conclusion - Gaga doesn't even have Katy's reach. She is the closest thing to female BTS with zero solo smash hits in the last DECADE. She is as fan driven as it gets which explains her lack of longevity and success

This Thread: "Massive Numbers and Success for Taylor, but where are the famous songs?"

Your defense: "Numbers say otherwise"

but of course, when i ask question like "how do you know a song is a classic?", i see no answer.

i rather use numbers and cultural relevancy than trust my own feelings.

you do you i guess

Can you post songs (Not Taylor) that you think are famous/classics?

Streaming number is not a classic. Too much ignorance.

Typical swifties.

According to their rhetoric, macarena is a classic because it sold so well and topped the charts long. But its very famous. Lmao.

But ironically, taylor did not even top the hot 100 chart long and her song is nothing famous like macarena.

Irony.

Lmao

She might not have a "Billie Jean", but then, who apart from Michael Jackson has? It's probably the single most known pop song of all time, a single from the most sold album of all time.

Taylor might not have a signature smash hit, but she has multiple songs that were/are huge hits. The idea that something like Blank Space isn't an extremely well known song is, well, disingenuous. Now, obviously, Neil Tennant isn't exactly the target audience of Taylor, and given that we're in the streaming era it's not really a surprise he doesn't really know much about Taylor's music.

billie jean, creep, i always love you, my heart will go on, make you feel my love, like a prayer, lose yourself, in the end, baby one more time,...

i mean, these songs are still popular around the world despite being old, streamed a lot everyday (some are way less than others but still), being covered, mentioned, referenced in different types of media so to me, they are classics.

taylor probably has shake it off, love story and you belong with me but she's still on top after 18 years and had been denying access to her hits for quite some times so it's harder to judge

Some of you are genuinely very mentally ill with how much you care about "known songs!!!" from someone you don't like :rip:

I totally agree. For me, she hadn't done anything memorable since You Need to Calm Down.

Now that it's coming out that the Pet Shop Boys are at real risk of being blocked from #1 in the UK by Taylor herself, this shady comment makes perfect sense. Just an old queen being mad and lashing out :bibliahh:
