illia Posted April 22 Posted April 22 I agree on Dua Lipa. Who could've known that it was just the beginning
Gladiator Posted April 22 Posted April 22 8 minutes ago, MusicLoverDude said: Paramore - for a year it seemed like Misery Business would be their only top 40 crossover but they collected a few more as they evolved. omg I remember when they broke into mainstream. I remember as a teenager I was so pissed. They were a little secret I had that nobody I knew offline knew about, and then suddenly everyone knew them and they weren't 'my secret band' anymore. It was one of those dramatic things. 2
Fitzswiftie Posted April 22 Posted April 22 Becky G after Shower seemed like she would fade away to oblivia, like her then bf Austin Mahone. Her becoming one of the biggest and most influential acts in Latin music was a pleasant surprise.

princedonte Posted April 22 Posted April 22 I remember people saying Britney was going to be a 1 Hit wonder. 1
Julia Fox Posted April 22 Posted April 22 Cardi B screamed OHW when Bodak Yellow dropped imo. She seemed more a reality star than a rapper with a string of hits. And I'm glad she wasn't because her visuals and her effort on music -when she isn't messy- it's very great. 1
PoisonPill Posted April 22 Posted April 22 I remember "I Kissed a Girl" felt like a novelty hit until she quickly surpassed it with Hot n Cold
Dante Silva Posted April 22 Posted April 22 (edited) Carly Rae Jepsen. There was a point after the success of "Call Me Maybe" where it felt like she was not going to be able to establish a longterm career in music and whilst I find the platinum blonde look she went on to stylistically adopt somewhat questionable, I am pleased that she found a cult and loyal fanbase just large enough to sustain her to the point where she on occasion still has actual Hits. DiegoMarcoCMM Posted April 22 Posted April 22 Honest question: what's the other hit from Tate besides Greedy? 1

Dialamba Posted April 22 Posted April 22 Dua Lipa and Olivia. New rules and drivers licence scream one hit wonder.
MatiRod Posted April 22 Posted April 22 Katy Perry. "I Kissed a Girl" was basically a shock value novelty single. 2008 was a way different time for gay stuff remember. But she had another perfect pop smash on her album ("Hot N Cold") and the rest is history.
