Her fans want that 90+ metacritic score but fail to realize that in art, critique is an important part of artistic growth. No one's opinion should dictate your work but it's a fantastic tool to see how it's being interpreted, and whether your intended message is being clouded by aspects you could change or develop more. A big issue for me is that all the MUSIC feels like an afterthought. Over the past couple of years the focus has tightened on her personal life and her lyrics more than ever before, and on this album especially every song feels like word salad with no space for the actual music. Taylor is rambling on every track, sharing some of her worst metaphors yet and complaining about the same problems she had in her teens even though she's in her mid-30s now. If you love it, great. If she breaks more records, great. But all this constant unwavering praise from her fans is holding her back and it's getting more and more obvious with every album. I really don't think TTPD is going to be remembered as a particularly good body of work from her catalogue.
