They said NO to Maneater (a #1 in UK).

 

They said NO to Say It Right (a #1 in France, Switzerland, Canada, New Zealand & USA).

 

They said NO to Give It To Me (a #1 in Canada & USA & UK).

 

 

 

But said YES to these 2 classics. Did taste win?

These are all WIDELY remembered here and more popular nowadays than the two #1s so yes taste did win
