Klein Posted April 15 Posted April 15 The immediate jumpscare of going from False God to You Need To Calm Down, ughhhhh... PR queen was trying to do yet another PR move and made one of the most offensive song of her career. It's so bad it hurts. "Shade never made anybody less gay" might be the only redeeming quality of the song because she was so sure to be making a point and came up with something this bad that it made it camp.
Klein Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Afterglow, we salute you for doing your thing despite between in the middle of two nightmares. You should have been the album closer, the rest is not even worth continuing this album. It even works perfectly as a closer, both narratively and sonically. It's just good you know?! 1

And what worker doesn't have a vinyl player on its work station at the warehouse?. Together with a fridge and a television You guys just can't accept the fact that a group of non-swiftie dudes are listening the album and laughing at it together before you can even see the album credit
Klein Posted April 15 Posted April 15 "I promise you'll never find another like ME!"... all I can say is I hope she was talking about the song and that we're never getting something so terribly bad and cringy ever again.

Personally iconic line I fear. "I ain't tryna mess with your self expression but I've learned a lesson that stressin' and obsessin' 'bout someone else is no fun" is fine. All those -ess sounds flow so good. Always kinda liked the production. It sounds big and expensive.
Klein Posted April 15 Posted April 15 (edited) Let me do a group thing for It's Nice To Have A Friend and Daylight. Thank you for your service, but you really weren't needed and the definition of not bad, but filler, and mid. And god save us from that awful spoken outro. Edited April 15 by Klein
1989 Posted April 15 Posted April 15 The way I love/like/use 7 songs on Lover and like/use 7 songs on Rep and Need could literally tip the scales in Lover's favor, but it hasn't even been officially released or made available for streaming It's like Lover wants to fail
Rence Posted April 15 Posted April 15 I don't like IFTYE so I made a Lover playlist with The Archer as the opening track and it sets the mood for the album perfectly. Then the transition to Cruel Summer makes it so much better 1 1
Maroon legacy Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Lover is kinda strange, cause I really enjoyed this album when it came out and years after, but now it's #8 on my ranking. I had strong emotional connections to some songs and the album overall was giving "nostalgic summer" for years. But now when I listen to it, most of the time it feels predictable and flat, only some highlights are making it enjoyable. I never hated ANY of the songs on this album (except for It's Nice To Be A Flop). 1
Tusk Posted April 15 Posted April 15 "In my feelings more than Drake" ::stops playing the album:: 1 1
NordicGuy Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Louis Bell should go behind bars for recording IFTYE. That song is disgusting. Let us pray that he was nowhere near the studio whenever Taylor and Post were recording Fortnight. He would have to pull an actual pop State of Grace for him to be forgiven. 1 1 1

I think when it was new I even said it was her 3rd best album behind Red and Speak Now ( ... ) but now it's either #9 or #10 for me in my ranking. Really weird. INTHAF is one of my faves though 1 1

1989 Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Nnnn on the topic of IFTYE, what a waste of a cute instrumental. Clearly it was never opener material (mistake #1), but the production kind of gives cute lil mid pop album bop that bridges the gap between two more important (and better) moments. Of course instead, she made it the opener and put some of her worst lyrics ever on it.

idkwiam Posted April 15 Posted April 15 London GOD is top 3 on Lover along with paper rings and afterglow. You all hate fun bops
willmcclure9 Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Lover is crazy bc how it has Daylight, Afterglow, False God but also has MEH, YNTCD, IDTYE among other atrocities 1 2

Klein Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Anyway overall Lover is pretty average. There are some good songs on it, but overall it feels more like a compilation of songs than an actual album. Ranking Spoiler False God Miss American & The Heartbreak Prince Death By A Thousand Cuts Cruel Summer Cornelia Street (live from Paris) Afterglow Lover I Think He Knows London Boy Paper Rings The Archer Daylight It's Nice To Have A Friend You Need To Calm Down The Man ME! I Forgot That You Existed My Lover playlist Spoiler 1. Cruel Summer 2. Lover 3. I Think He Knows 4. Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince 5. Cornelia Street (live in Paris) 6. Death By A Thousand Cuts 7. False God 8. Afterglow Bonus - All Of The Girls You Loved Before Overall there are more songs I really like on Lover than on Reputation, but Reputation actually is an album and not just a compilation of songs. So that's why they're tied on the bottom of her discography for me. Can't wait for the redemption tomorrow. 1
