Migs30283 Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Most likely producers in TTPD: Louis Bell Aaron Dessner Jack Antonoff 1
1989 Posted February 8 Posted February 8 I’m just now able to catch up on this thread today, and there’s a lot I could write paragraphs about, but I’ll just point out: 1.) Miss Americana was not a political piece in the slightest, and if you took that five minute scene in a 90 minute documentary to mean it was, perhaps you should go back and watch it again, as it touched on much, much more. And no, none of it was political, sorry. 2.) If you don’t like “Taylor as a person” these days, that’s fine. She’s a human and flawed like the rest of us, but stanning 1989 and Rep era Taylor and saying that is wild. 2 1
Klein Posted February 8 Posted February 8 I think it's also time to claim "My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys" because it's track 3 and her track 3 record speaks for itself (Teardrops, Love Story, BTD, Treacherous, Style, IDSB, Lover, tlgad, gold rush and Anti-Hero). 3

I just realized there’s only been one track three I don’t like, so maybe you’re onto something Edit: and four of those are in my Top 30 Taylor songs wait- Edited February 8 by 1989 2

Folklore89sm Posted February 8 Posted February 8 I have so many thoughts. • This album needs to be brilliant. Anything less is not good enough. Whether you like it or not, she’s currently the most hated she’s been since 2016. The Grammys were a ME!SS and the fact MID won is only going to put more pressure on Poets to be an objectively excellent project. • Can somebody please put me out of my misery and confirm or deny the noise of TTPD being synth-pop? If it sounds anything like MID I might start thinking about jumping off of very tall somethings. • The fact that this album was the one that started being made in early 2022 (I think, since she said she started working on it after turning MID in to be put on vinyl, and we know You’re Losing ME! was the last song made for the album in late 2021) is reassuring. Those academia outfits in early 2022 candids should hopefully bode well. • I hope she has seen that MID wasn’t LOVED by fans in the way that folklore was, and it didn’t get as much acclaim. Please give us something with quality more inline with the 2020 smashes. • This album would have been started closely after the RED TV album dropped and ATW10 came out of nowhere to put her back on the map with the GP. Hopefully she sees that we want emotional, heartfelt material from her and less candy floss pop or unfortunate MIDness. • I’m crossing everything that this is Aaron-heavy. Hopefully she was torn between J and A after folkmore and gave Jack MID to keep Poets for Aaron. Some song titles definitely give The National (The Alchemy being the main one). • The other song titles are very strange, but I’m praying that they are ironic and misleading. • Joe apparently loved sad indie music. Give us sad indie music! • Florence is a shock. I can’t even imagine what that one will sound like. • The artwork and aesthetic are very simple but I’m thinking that could be a good thing. The back cover and the photo she’s using for her pfp are so simple. Almost as if she doesn’t want to lead this era with the aesthetic but the music. Those photos look so in-specific and could be from any point in her career. Perhaps she doesn’t want to corner off the album too much into one mood or image as she wants this one to become her quintessential one? • Burning down the Lover house is significant. New things are coming. Hopefully a new sound. If it’s Rock, I hope it’s classic rock and not that corny 2000s punk sound that everyone and their grandma have been doing recently. • The one benefit of PTMD (post traumatic midnights disorder) is that my expectations are on the floor. 1 1

In the real world she’s still as beloved and popular as ever. That’s why her new album became the most liked album announced on social media from this decade, or why there was a 40-minute wait time just to buy a CD for it. Y’all are letting the echo chambers online get to your heads I fear. 7 6

FolkLover1989 Posted February 8 Posted February 8 The album needs to be great atleast Otherwise the criticism will be more than ever before Midnights was good but this time neither critics nor audience will be forgiving of songs like Question? Also Jack and Aaron again is making me 3
FolkLover1989 Posted February 8 Posted February 8 If this turned out to be Midnights 2.0 it would be end of the commercial dominance critical acclaim 1

Album needs to subvert expectations 1
What_A_Mess Posted February 8 Posted February 8 (edited) The Tortured Poets Department better not sound like You’re Losing Me! I hate that song! If it’s a break up album it needs to have songs on the same level as All Too Well, I almost do, sad beautiful tragic!!! Edited February 8 by What_A_Mess 1

1989 Posted February 8 Posted February 8 This narrative that Midnights isn’t good or loved is f*cking wild. The album with Maroon (!!!), Anti-Hero, You’re On Your Own Kid, Midnight Rain, Bejeweled, Karma, The Great War, High Infidelity, Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve, Dear Reader, and Hits Different? Also, You’re Losing Me?! Isn’t loved? Maybe it is true that she should be less popular so some of yall can just go the f*ck elsewhere tbh. I’ve been doing my best not to, but I really just want to gatekeep at this point cause y’all don’t get it. 3 11
KarmaCat Posted February 8 Posted February 8 I just hope she brings out the best of her melodies for this album. That’s what I found lacking in Midnights - it had her best lyrics but the melody was not IT. Mastermind, Question?, Labyrinth it’s like she’s scrambling to have all the words she forgot that she’s singing 1
