It's there — we're just too dumb to notice it. True to an extent, but I also think the album has a lot of cynicism to its lyrics and that's what gives it some of its depth. I mean, the hits alone. "So it's gonna be forever, or it's gonna go down in flames,” "could end in burning flames or paradise,” "we team up, then switch sides,” "nothing lasts forever, but this is getting good now”…. "I can see the end as it begins" is such a jaded, fatalistic way of approaching life and love and everything. Blank Space, I Know Places, Out of the Woods, Wonderland. She used catchy pop beats and a shimmery polished aesthetic to hide the fact that she was in a very negative place. I think Tortured Poets could be along the same lines.
