The not all bad lyrics like the tortured poets department, yeah (x4) plus was banned here. I'm not convinced it's fake. I just follow my intuition because, often, when everyone believes something is fake, it turns out not to be. Like the TTPD tracklist, the folklore/cardigan tea or the reputation cover. 2
Sweeftie13 Posted April 12 Posted April 12 I have to attribute this day in which we rediscovered Red to that little child who watched the videos of 22, Begin Again, Trouble and WAGBT on YouTube: I was only 8 years old when this album came out and although I already loved Back To December and Enchanted it was Red that truly made a Swiftie, a very small Swiftie 😂. Taylor was very important to me in that period because during school trips I couldn't make friends and while everyone had a friend to sit with during the trip I always sat alone, but when I put on my headphones and played State Of Grace games the the situation changed and I no longer felt alone, Taylor's voice reassured me. I was a victim of fatphobia because all my other classmates made fun of me for being fat. I will always love this album, even the Taylor's version was very important for me because All Too Well (10 minutes) came out 2 days after my ex-girlfriend left me after confessing to having cheated on me, while she was telling me I was holding a bunch of roses (red!) to give her. Relating to this album is the most fascinating thing about being a Taylor fan, maybe Red doesn't have the best production, the best lyrics, the best music videos: but I consider it the best Taylor album because overall it encapsulates the essence of her music. 1
Klein Posted April 12 Posted April 12 Come Back... Be Here is another very good song. I don't reach for it very often, but it's a cute one. Deserves to be on Red, but smartly put on the deluxe as it's not an essential I'd say. Or just take the place of Stay Stay Stay on the standard.
Klein Posted April 12 Posted April 12 Gaga At Home. Well how do you feel about this patronising discourse now Taylor? Don't care for the OG, don't care for the TV. Next! 3
Brooklyn Baby Posted April 12 Posted April 12 She hasn't topped the State of Grace/Begin Again bookend duo yet and nothing really comes close. The bar was set too high I fear 4
Klein Posted April 12 Posted April 12 State Of Grace (Acoustic) is amazing because State Of Grace is amazing. But I would always listen to the original over the acoustic. Still amazing of course. But it lacks the it factor of the production of the original. Imagine being amazing and still not the favorite child because this album is obliterating.

It's not just about being good songs, it's also about being perfect narrative devices to introduce and end the album. While the 1 "I'm doing good I'm onto some new sh*t" is a very good opener, hoax, despite being one of the most perfect songs, doesn't feel like a bookend. willow is also not a perfect opener thematically, while evermore is perfect for that. But if we take folklore/evermore as one era, then the 1/evermore is a combo that rivals SOG/BA both quality and narrative-wise. 2
Klein Posted April 12 Posted April 12 I cannot listen to Ronan today. It's just out of place in a day of celebration.
Dear Reader Posted April 12 Posted April 12 Can we just take in a moment to recognize this is the last friday of our lives without TS11? 1
Klein Posted April 12 Posted April 12 Better Man. The lost track 5... for a REASON. I'm really glad she chose All Too Well over Better Man, but I still think she should have included Better Man in the original tracklist. That song is just waaayyy too good to be left behind. Imagine having Better Man right after All Too Well on the original for a second... The collapse. I hold onto this pride because, these days, it's all I have And I gave to you my best, and we both know you can't say that Like let's go from how heartbroken you are to how resentful. Full story would have been told. 2

Klein Posted April 12 Posted April 12 (edited) I already spoke a bit of Nothing New before, but it's truly the song that should've taken the place of The Lucky One on the original. I gotta say I wish it was a solo track. Considering the theme of the song, it's weird for me that she would add another female artist on there. It's consistent with where she's at in her current career, but I wish she would have made sure the vault songs were treated as if they were about to be added to the OG album. Fantastic lyrics, that perfectly depicts the anxiety she felt about "aging" and not being the shiny new thing. Blondie made sure she wouldn't let this song be prophetic. Edited April 12 by Klein
Klein Posted April 12 Posted April 12 Who doesn't like Babe? I understand why it's a vault song, but it's still really really great. 1

smallreminders Posted April 12 Posted April 12 The album comes out in a week and y'all are posting here like crazy, 60 pages in the last 24 hours Catching up is impossible
Prismee Posted April 12 Posted April 12 unpopular opinion but WTNY/Clean are also perfect bookends narratively tbh, even if i don't like the former that much. blondie had a vision 1

The bar was set too high I fear I know I'll be clowned for this (because most of the people here have no taste when it comes to poppy songs having great lyrics) but Lavender Haze/Mastermind/(Dear Reader) is probably my favorite combination. First of all, sonically LH and Mastermind are some of my favorite moments on the album and there are many ways one can interpret them. But then Dear Reader comes and tells us that she is indeed miserable and we as listeners shouldn't take what she's saying at face value. Midnights is like one big puzzle and Dear Reader is the key that shows how all the previous songs have very sad undertones, especially Lavender Haze. 1
