Dear Reader Posted April 12 Posted April 12 One of my favorite songs ever. After all the heartbreak and chaos on the album, ending it on such a positive note and hopefulness 3
Klein Posted April 12 Posted April 12 Holy Hymn... oh the masterpiece that you are. I could listen to it on repeat all day This song is just wayyyyy too good. The TV miss the mark by just a little but I wasn't too familiar with the OG prior to Red TV to really have a strong emotional connection to it. Come to think of it, Joe Jonas truly is that muse, despite how sh*tty he was. Not many relationships had such an impact on her career let's say that. The way I would k*ll for her to include it in the Red setlist on The Eras Tour in place of WANEGBT and that cringy af choreography. It's very high energy so it would still keep the momentum going and show more of the diversity of Red than just the three big pop singles.
Klein Posted April 12 Posted April 12 Tonight, I'm gonna dance For all that we've been through But I don't wanna dance If I'm not dancing with you 3
Wolf Alice Posted April 12 Posted April 12 (edited) So I've recently discovered the work of Marcel Proust and I can't get over the literary similarities between Taylor's songwriting and the way he describes events in the past. His magnum opus is this work called "In search of lost time" which heavily uses the theme of "involuntary memory" - the most famous example being him taking a bite of a madeleine which instantly transports him to a very specific memory from his childhood the same way Taylor often likes to use an object, colour, weather, etc to transport herself and her audience to a specific event. Anyway the reason I'm saying all this is because the 5th volume of this book is titled "Prisoner and the fugitive" and the cover looks like this And here's a synopsis of this volume - In The Captive, Proust's narrator describes living in his mother's Paris apartment with his lover, Albertine, and subsequently falling out of love with her. In The Fugitive, the narrator loses Albertine forever. Rich with irony, The Captive and The Fugitive inspire meditations on desire, sexual love, music, and the art of introspection. The Prisoner and the Fugitive focuses on the narrator's obsessive and jealous relationship with his lover Albertine, whom he keeps captive in his apartment. Am I delusional in thinking that Taylor is being intentional with the album title and the cover. Is she about to serve us a contemporary literary masterpiece in the veins of what Proust did for French literature Any one familiar with Proust here to add to this debate? Klein Posted April 12 Posted April 12 (edited) Here comes the best song ever recorded in the history of music... Sad Beautiful Tragic. I can't begin to find the words on how much I love this song. And it keeps hurting the same way as if it was the first time I listened to it. There's nothing like listening to it while on a walk in the country. The experience is just too good. When I re-listened to my old car CDs last year and found out SBT was on the very first one I ever had (the same one that also had IKYWT), I was completely shocked. I hadn't realize that I was already serving perfect taste in 2012. Which makes me want to say that this song is also perfect while driving alone at night. This song is perfect line after perfect line after perfect line. I don't even know which one I want to highlight. "Words, how little they mean, when you're a little too late" "And time is taking its sweet time erasing you" Both of these lines are truly next level. And this bridge Distance, timing Breakdown, fighting Silence, the train runs off its tracks Kiss me, try to fix it Could you just try to listen? Hang up, give up For the life of us we can't get back Edited April 12 by Klein 6 1
vale9001 Posted April 12 Posted April 12 (edited) Worst Song on Red is everything has changed. That, end game and run. The way She and and redhead can't write together a song Is more than a 4/10 is something the science should study. Edited April 12 by vale9001
Klein Posted April 12 Posted April 12 The Lucky One was already not a career highlight in the slightest. It's just a bit there, which is even more jarring after the absolute perfection of Sad Beautiful Tragic. But the release of Nothing New truly perplexed me to high heavens. How on earth do you have this song in the vault and put the mid TLO on your album? Makes no sense to me 1
Klein Posted April 12 Posted April 12 (edited) Everything Has Changed is a song I don't mind too much. I don't hate it, I don't love it. It would be welcomed on most albums as a good/ok song. But Red is such a long album that if we had to trim the fat, I'd get rid of this one. At least they made the right choice of including EHC instead of Run of the album. But the Taylor/Ed collab is truly not the most fruitful of her career. The Joker & The Queen is the best of all them, and that's not a career highlight either (although, a bit underrated I'd say seeing how everyone trashes it). Edited April 12 by Klein 1
Fama Posted April 12 Posted April 12 Our reliable insider posted more information about the tracks on X. Spoiler ICDWABH: reminds me a bit of holy ground! Has a soft rock and folk vibe in it! The other day I was listening to Daddy lessons and very very loosely reminded me of it?It was a weird connection and my memory is weird So I stand by reminds me sounding like holy ground in a way, take the daddy lessons one very very loosely! Also to ATLR asking about Florida!!!, I was looking the other day and loosely reminds me of dog days? very very VERY loosely though! Again please note I am not a musical critic and heard the songs months ago once But I stand by the sounds and genres of the album, the song it reminds me of may not 100% line up with it, but more so the genre like-

Klein Posted April 12 Posted April 12 Starlight is really enjoyable melodically and in terms of production. I am just not really excited by the lyrics. Wish she would have used the production for another song, like Everything Has Changed typically.
vale9001 Posted April 12 Posted April 12 everything has changed is x factor finalist ballad level of basicness.

mael Posted April 12 Posted April 12 Her lil pivot to that Kennedy boy post SN era was very peculiar... to put it lightly
Klein Posted April 12 Posted April 12 And just like that, we are soooooooo back with another career highlight. Begin Again, you will always be famous. The hopefulness, optimism, innocence and happiness is just soooo welcome after this rollercoaster of an album (it feels weird to say it's the book-end of the album when there's just as many songs still coming). A songwriting re-peak after the 3 previous tracks that were lacking a little. I'm trying to imagine how insane Red would be if Nothing New replaced TLO, and Begin Again was right after SBT/NN. And we walked down the block, to my car And I almost brought him up But you start to talk about the movies That your family watches every single Christmas And I want to talk about that And for the first time What's past is past TABS 5

"songs are about 3 minuetes" when the tracks he talks about are all like 4-5 minutes. The not all bad lyrics like the tortured poets department, yeah (x4) plus was banned here. BODERLINE Posted April 12 Posted April 12 I see Red discussion in here, so I just have to once again say that The Last Time is one of Taylor's all time best tracks, and I will not hear otherwise. 4
Klein Posted April 12 Posted April 12 Oh look who it is, the second most missunderstood masterpiece of her career: The Moment I Knew. Production is somber. Lyrics are powerful. Her voice is translating all the pain of that infamous 21st birthday. And there in the bathroom I try not to fall apart And the sinking feeling starts As I say hopelessly "He said he'd be here" The way that sinking feeling when you're starting to explain what is upsetting you so much and you start bowling and gasping for air can be physically felt through the song. Don't give anxiety and false hopes to someone who obviously loves you very much sisters. 1
