every1blinks Posted April 11 Posted April 11 Whew. Speak Now. Looking back, it has that same magic that is inherent in folklore. There's just something about it that transports you to another place. What I love most about it is the constant outpouring of genuine and earnest emotion. For the past 14 years, when she wails on Dear John, it hits me every time like it's the first time that "wow, she's hurting.” When Enchanted's instrumental before the bridge hits, I think "wow, she's really falling in love" as if I've never heard it before. The quiet after the bridge of Last Kiss has me go "wow, she's in such despair that she's actually just sitting aimlessly on the floor, a waste of life in this moment.” These moments are why people love Taylor. There's no saving face in her writing. I'd argue that Speak Now is THE Taylor Swift album. It's essential to who she is as an artist and integral to her continued evolution. And all at 19!!! Dear John, Enchanted, Last Kiss — career top 3s for certain artists, but that these are all on ONE album where every song is at least an 8/10?! The first Taylor album I bought on release day AND at Target for the BONUS TRACKS?! did THAT and I don't care WHAT she says, If This Was a Movie is MY track #16 6 3

I discovered her existence on a forum, where a Swiftie said in the Rihanna thread that Taylor would block Loud from #1 with Speak Now. I was like "Speak What? Taylor Who?". So I digged a little, and the fans were saying Taylor's best song was Enchanted at the time. I listened to it, LOVED it, but never listened to Taylor again for a while out of spite because I was mad she was going to block LOUD. The next anecdote about my life before I was a Swiftie tomorrow, on Red's day I will say your past life as a Navy is fascinating to me Spoiler and yes I literally hit my reaction limit with the first two pages I've read this morning

ParisTexas Posted April 11 Posted April 11 This album is making me want to gaslight myself into having an unrequited crush on anyone and feel the pain accordingly in the lyrics There's a local cafe who's doing a listening party and I was so tempted on going, but I'd rather listen to it with my airpods at home cause' I don't think I will be able to catch much with people around reacting live to the lyrics
wastedpotential Posted April 11 Posted April 11 Okay I finally caught up so Speak Now thoughts are imminent, but can I just say that y'all didn't live up to my expectations last night? Like yes, y'all cleared the 700 pages, but most of what was said had nothing to do with praising Speak Now? Surely that's the best use of everyone's time today, I was expecting to wake up to hundreds of pages of praises, and it seems like maybe 6 of y'all have listened? Disappointing. Let me begin the process of destroying my sleep schedule (it's already getting ****** over by TTPD, so I may as well start early) to keep y'all in line for the Red discourses tomorrow 1

wastedpotential Posted April 11 Posted April 11 Anyway, I do fear I have less to say in advocacy of Sermon Now since it is so broadly beloved by the fanbase, but wow. What a moment I will never forget. A moment that is most pleasing to me in Lord's career Yes, I did spot the unrepentant heathens up-thread who were trying to get a laugh in at its expense, but they're condemned to Hell anyway so I won't bother clocking. I just hope they know their time is coming I want to take this time to celebrate the evisceration of Camilla Belle on Bibles for Repentance. Was it misogynistic, and a territorial attack on the new girl of her third-ugliest ex with the second-worst personality? Yes. Did she deserve the whacking she got? Yes. Did the lyric change bother me? Yes, but the vast improvements to the adlibs more than made up for it. Despite what some of the girls (even some of my beloved girls) were saying earlier, there isn't a song here that wasn't improved in some way by the release of the New Testament, in a way that was materially different enough for me to choose them over the Old Testament. The closest in quality is obviously Scripture Now, but even in a true tie (which this is not, as I still prefer the New Testament's vocal spacing to Nathan Chapman's original cramped mix), I'm always going to prefer the new blessed vocals over the... emotive screeches of times past. 1

wastedpotential Posted April 11 Posted April 11 Now, I really didn't want to be doing track by track reviews here because it can be exhausting, but I need to take a moment to praise Messiah-Sent as a true hymnal of the scripture.
