Taylor Swift - 'THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT'

Out of all her pop albums, Midnights is by far the least commercial sounding one. I don't think she was thinking of chasing hits while making it. She just loves making pop music and being a popstar.

I think this is very likely. Everytime she has made a home-run album, she has followed it with a less succesful one. Fearless -> Speak Now. 1989 -> Reputation. Folklore -> Evermore.

I'd say it's part of the reason she has managed to be so huge without being too overexposed.

I really don't think that TTPD will be less successful than Midnights. But yeah, it's probably gonna have less radio-friendly material and overall more alternative vibe to it. Also, I can't imagine her going very alternative and experimental on it, I doubt that this album will be more alternative than folklore and folklore was not THAT alternative. It's giving Red + folklore, as I said a lot of times before :sadviolin:

My guess would be puta because its so out there and not many people like the over the top electro pop thing she was going for

Debut
Fearless
Speak Now

Red

1989
reputation
Lover
Midnights

folklore
evermore

in which camp THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT gonna fit?
I think, it might be with Red, but if Red was country + pop, TTPD will be indie/alt-rock + pop

imagine being an album that contains these songs and be called MID:

- The Great War

- Would've Could've Should've

- Maroon

- Bigger than the whole Sky

- You're own you're own kid

- You're losing me

- Anti-Hero

- Dear Reader

- Hits Different

- High Infidelity

- Snow on the Beach (feat. more Lana del Rey )

- Midnight Rain

- Paris

Excluding 1989 this is her best pop album in terms of songwriting and storytelling

this album imo is gonna have at least 2-3 songs "made" for radios or "good" for radios if you prefer this definition.

btw folkmore was weak on radios cause it was a surprise release even for her label so they didn't work on promotion, and coming after the radio flop of Lover. Right now with the right promotion Cardigan or Exile would have became radio hits cause they eat everything from her.

This to say (at least your song it's not really experimental jazz fusion of the song is really weak- bad) if you're a big star and you have radio demand in a phase of you career if a song is good everything is "radio friendly". Who if not big stars could sell something different from the sound radios are playing more?.

August at date would be a Cruel Summer level radio hit

I feel like a sucker that we have only 4 variants, god, everyone else these days doing 7-15. Anyway we're the only ones who get the hate so why not just to go all in?

I actually find Midnights to be better than 1989. Midnights > 1989 >>> rep >>>>>>>Loser

Because she don't really need all those versions. The majority of sales are probably from her website versions and this exclusives are not doing much for her, so the Target one is enough. Plus billboard will count only 4 sales per person, this rule started working since after folklore release, that's why she did the extreme amount of versions only 1 time (and it was in fact conceptual and interesting).

I was listening to Hits Different moments ago and thought it wasn't appreciated enough. It's just such a perfectly crafted pop song. Whew what a bawp :WAP:

I agree that Midnights is her best pop album, but at the same time Reputation is her best album to me :thing:

The biggest difference between Taylor's variants and the other artists' variants are that at least Taylor's are always interesting. Wether it's a different cover, different pictures, the clock gimmick, the bonus track. The other artists just splash the same cover across these different Vinyl colors and call it a day.

At least, for me, Taylor makes buying a different vinyl of the same album exciting. For other artists I just pick my favorite and that's it.

I mean, just look at the material :jonny5:
