selena_lavigne Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Streaming Picture To Burn homophobic version in 2010 on my sister's mp3 player was the only queer representation we had in our household. The superior version.
selena_lavigne Posted April 5 Posted April 5 (edited) Quite honestly both of the lyric changes from "things that she does on the mattress" and "i'll tell mine your gay" were done for bad reasons IMO. First off, if he's telling his friends she is obsessive and crazy while writing an obsessive and crazy song, then basically she would be outing him to her friends and it would mean TAYLOR SWIFT WROTE IN 2006 THAT SHE WAS DATING A GAY MAN IN HIGH SCHOOL. And they changed it and it completely erased the history of Taylor Swift including queer characters in her music from day 1. Then the "things on the mattress" released when she was 20 was one of the first times she ever even included an explicit a sexual reference in her songs and yet again she changed it. It is a little upsetting that she would change her first lyrics of homosexuality and one of her first lyrics alluding to sex, just because the lyrics are a little sour. BUT SHE DIDN'T CHANGE THE LYRICS ABOUT THROWING HER PHONE AT HER BOYFRIEND'S HEAD. Edited April 5 by selena_lavigne

He's obviously a straight red-neck and what better way to mess with him than to tell his friends actually he's gay? I mean I don't think it's homophobic, it's pretty funny to me but I can see how it could get twisted that way. 3
Michael196 Posted April 5 Posted April 5 The lack of thinking skills around here, which is quite surprising considering that we're here for a woman whose art requires a lot of that, but hey... bless the ignore button. Other than that, all she needs for this era is one single with an emotionally charged MV that speaks for itself, anything more would be a treat but also an overkill considering her schedule... 1

Where did she say "you are a straight redneck and i will tell my friends you are gay?” What if she was pissed that he was using her as a beard? Edited April 5 by selena_lavigne 4
PoisonedIvy Posted April 5 Posted April 5 You guys I'm so hyped for this album? I have a feeling it's going to be on par with Red, folklore, and evermore. it is a feeling that I can't shake. And that's a high standard but I am choosing to believe it's true 2
queenoftheclouds Posted April 5 Posted April 5 The Playlists are amazing. Sad Reputation and Debut aren't on them.
PoisonedIvy Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Like the hype is REALLY kicking in that we'll be hearing her most mature and introspective takes on heartbreak. This is probably the closest thing we'll ever get to a divorce album from her let that sink in 1

He could also be bi. Not this G-Anon as$ logic. No she doesn't have to spell it out for you to infer the very obvious meaning. call me obsessive and crazy to justify the break-up - LIE -> I'll tell them you're gay - LIE ti_t for tat. To be fair, nothing on Debut would truly fit into the idea of grieving a lost relationship. Most of those songs are either songs about your identity as a teenager or about crushes & infatuations that haven't even come to fruition. and rep, well, I personally think it's ok to leave it out of this narrative. It perfectly documents the beginning phase of their relationship, whereas Lover onwards is documenting the first cracks and conflicts they'd begin to encounter. 1

Why are you trying to change the fact that Taylor's record label made her alter the lyrics to exclude her singing about dating a gay guy? And that she has the opportunity to include the lyric in the next version. Edited April 5 by selena_lavigne 2
1989 Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Midnights was denial and TTPD is the other four stages of grief…this really does sort of make sense looking at the tracklist.
skysolo Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Lover Lavender Haze and Cruel Summer being on denial playlist The song choices have me excited for this album again. The only songs she has on there from MIDshites are the good ones and plenty of Folklord, SacRed, Wigless and Peak Now representation

This time is the turn for the red- folklore stans. Seems more and more like a mix of both these records. 1
RideOrDie Posted April 5 Posted April 5 capitalistic queen maximizing her profits using swiftie theories she said y'all wanted 5 stages of grief??? 1
scottstreet Posted April 5 Posted April 5 (edited) Some people are misinterpreting these playlists so bad I don't think she wrote Lover, Cruel Summer, False God etc thinking about denial, I think what it really means is that she looks at these songs right now and thinks "man i was so delusional" Edited April 5 by scottstreet 4
Ms. Togekiss Posted April 5 Posted April 5 She's truly unhinged and is now giving new meaning to her love songs from 5 years ago like

It's a reflection after the fact and it makes sense. Even for a song like "Ours", detached from her personal experience and the context in which she wrote it: it's a lovely song about a relationship being nobody's business but the two people in it & in some cases that's true and fine. However, that song was about her and John Mayer and we can all agree that was delulu. She did this exact reflection on it years before btw. Edited April 5 by Mandalore
queenoftheclouds Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Just Imagine: 5 Stages - 4 Songs on the Album. That's a concept!
