But I guess LS and YBWM do that already With the performance of AH & CS and the growth in that genre, she got at least another smash in her over there. Moreover, it would be interesting to hear what a post folkmore country record from her sounds like, because if she managed to produce all these classics fresh into the industry at barely 20, then the sky would be the limit for her as a veteran, it's kind of scary but insanely exciting… 2
Popular Post Mandalore Posted April 2 Popular Post Posted April 2 (edited) One of the best Country Songs ever released. I'm not exaggerating. The vocal delivery, the lyrics. I've got some tricks up my sleeve ... I've had some tricks up my sleeve The dramatic build-up before giving in. And I'm never gonna love again, to say that this is it, you actually found love. I could write a thesis on this song. Edited April 2 by Mandalore 19
19SLAYty9 Posted April 2 Posted April 2 Maybe her radio station will give a hint on the sound of the album based on what she plays 1

But I fear the meltdowns would be HUGE. 1 minute ago, Mandalore said: One of the best Country Songs ever released. I'm not exaggerating. The vocal delivery, the lyrics. We normalised it for her. But it will be worth it for TTPD! It was also 5 months which made it so much worse. However, midnights was the WORST. Messed up my sleep schedule. 1

We need A SMASH BALLAD The thing that's mostly giving me some hope for this album is that she began making it after seeing how well RED TV and All Too Well 10MV did. I genuinely think her and her team were surprised by the success it saw during RED TV week. When you look back over the past 5 years of Taylor Swift, everything from Lover -> Fearless TV was hugely successful by any standards but she still felt like a mostly fanbase-driven artist during that time. Even with the folklore repeak, unless you were tuned into the world of Taylor Swift, it would have passed you by (to this day people are still discovering cardigan on TikTok). Then suddenly the TikTok hype for RED TV and ATW10 and the unforeseen success of the song and its video put Taylor Swift back on the front page of the internet for everyone. The controversy around Jake Gyllenhaal and the short film kind of spurred the success of the song. My theory is that she got a glimpse of what it felt like to be back on top of the world for a week and that is what fuelled her on to produce another album (TTPD) right after finishing Midnights (which was completed and turned in to the label in December 2021. With ATW, I think she realised that what the world reallu wanted from her was what put her on the map in the first place: heartfelt ballads about love and loss, with sprinklings of celebrity scandal and gossip thrown in. TTPD is the first project she began working on in a post ATW10 world. When Taylor accepted the award for NSAI Songwriter of the Decade in autumn 2022, just before the release of Midnights, she performed ATW10 acoustic and I thought it was very interesting how she dedicated time in her speech to talking about how she mentally categorises her music into the 3 glitterpen/gel pen/quill categories. To me, it almost felt like she was reminding the world that she could still write catchy pop songs after her last two non-rerecording albums were very much gel pen/quill driven. It also served as a bit of a warning (I think) to fans that the glitter pen would be very much present on the upcoming Midnights album. My worst case scenario is that TTPD is in any way similar to Midnights. I'm thinking/hoping/praying that Midnights was the result of Taylor flexing her pop music muscles again after spending lockdown rebuilding her songwriting status and legacy with the more serious folklore/evermore projects. Midnights was also the pop record which would justify the existence of the massive pop spectacle The Eras Tour (which likely was in the works long before Midnights itself). I'm hoping that The Tortured Poets Department is an answer to the world's hunger for more All Too Well type songs from her with echoes of folklore and evermore in there too, and that she got all the glitter pen ink out of her system with Midnights. I'm hoping for an album that is sonically a lot more exciting and interesting than Midnights too, which sounded boring and at least 3-years-out-of-date on the day it was released. 6 1
every1blinks Posted April 2 Posted April 2 (edited) Instead of a lead, I would love behind the song videos + a cappella snippets of said songs leading up to the release. Oh the intrigue, the anticipation Edited April 2 by every1blinks 6

What's a new Swiftian release without a frenzy of outrage created out of literal nothing, we've been there way too many times to learn that bad publicity always somehow ridiculously backfires on everyone but her. It also would be fun to see her throw digs at that crowd, even if they were subtle, although they're going to get triggered either way so who cares… 2

It's genuinely dizzying how many album tracks of hers would be career-defining mega smashes for other country artists. cowboy like me, I bet you think about me, right where you left me among others (notice the common denominator being "me”… come through Who's afraid of little old me? ). 3 1

Klein Posted April 2 Posted April 2 (edited) There's just something about Red that has been hitting so much lately. I'm a evermore girly, if anything. But then you go to Red, and you're welcomed by State Of Grace -> Red -> Treacherous that is already a killer 1, 2, 3 punch. You have the bops IKYWT/22/WANEGBT/TVFN. You have another one of her very best 1, 2, 3 punch in The Last Time -> Holy Ground -> Sad Beautiful Tragic. You've got the track 5 of all track 5 All Too Well, along with its 10 minutes version. You've got the shelved track 5 in Better Man. You've got the superior The Lucky Ones in Nothing New. IBYTAM is everything. Begin Again is a god-tier closing track. The Moment I Knew acts as one of the most underrated song in her discography. Forever Winter is one of the most heartbreaking song of her entire catalogue... And this was her last true breakup album. The Tortured Poets Department will be the first since then. I think I am not ready. Edited April 2 by Klein 6
