i hope loml has Sweet Nothing vibes, love the softness and lullaby-esque production of SN, as well as the cute lyrical theme.

I listened to this song a few weeks ago and then I suddenly wondered if the song doesn't describe the main reason why they broke up.

All that you ever wanted from me was sweet nothin'

All that you ever wanted from me was nothin'

It sounds cute at first, but if all he ever wanted from her is nothing and she wants more than nothing like support/marriage/family it's not going to work. Perhaps I'm overthinking the lyrics though, let's wait for TTPD. :snowman:

I listened to a podcast episode abt the song (The Lizard Review), and there was a whole lyrical analysis, very interesting. I think the song is saying that Joe really wanted the quiet life.  Humming in the kitchen, making supper together picking up pebbles on the beach, etc., but Taylor wants to acually be seen in the public eye, do more things before her career slows down, instead of escaping to Irish beach towns.

It always read as bittersweet to me, especially with the emotions she chose to convey with her voice on some parts.

On the way home
I wrote a poem
You say, "What a mind"
This happens all the time

Here she sounds almost disappointed by the dismissiveness of the response. You'd think someone would have a little bit more to say to you sharing a poem with them. The whole song sounds like a bittersweet sigh to me. Yes this is sweet and I've grown fond of what we have but I think I need more.

It's similar to Lavender Haze where the song by its title and overall theme should be a sweet love song right? But then you listen closer and you can't help but raise an eyebrow:

Starin' at the ceilin' with you
Oh, you don't ever say too much
And you don't really read into
My melancholia

You don't say too much, you don't read into my melancholia. Sounds like a good thing at first glance but is it really? Do you really want a partner that doesn't read anything into your sadness? That doesn't say "too much"? How long before the infatuation wears off and you start to resent those same attributes?

Yeah, and I think it's not just about a quiet life. It's also about wanting and giving support. After the pandemic she attended none of his events. We all know it's not because she didn't want to support him, because she loves supporting friends/family and she loved going to events with him before the pandemic. She didn't attend his events because he didn't want her to support him. And in return, he didn't show up to support her.

It results in the weird situation that she spent months in Ireland with the Conversations With Friends crew and then didn't go to any of their premieres. In the end, it must have made Taylor feel like a burden that he didn't want her support and he didn't want her to attend his events.

That's a good point as well.

I don't think sweet nothing the song is purspofully passive aggressive.

But at the time, that one of Joe's appeals was that he didn't want much from her and treat her as a person and not Taylor Swift.

But that same thing also soured their relationship as he wasn't willingly to provide her support in return.

I don't think it's passive aggressive at all. Just more ambivalent in tone, like she's both appreciative and disappointed in the "Sweet Nothings" of their relationship.

They said the end is coming
Everyone's up to something
I find myself running home to your sweet nothings
Outside, they're push and shoving
You're in the kitchen humming
All that you ever wanted from me was sweet nothing

The chorus stresses the appreciation and I guess where his appeal lies for her. He was a sweet escape from the madness and loudness of her life, the endless demands everyone has of her.

It's also that back in 2019 unlike in 2021,  Joe actually did support her . He went to her Amazon Prime Concert and flew with her for her Paris promo (they toured Paris together).  Joe went to the NME awards with her. They sat together at the golden globes. They went to the baftas after parties together.

It was after the pandemic that he seemed no longer wanted to be seen in public with her at all. Even hiding in the grammy after party photos.

Imagine if instead of adding all bonus tracks to deluxe edition, she will start releasing Bonus Tracks Chapters.
4 songs from standart edition and a bonus track for every chapter. And they all will be scattered across her spotify page

I'm already driven mad by the mess all over her Spotify Profile, I fear this might send me over the edge

Something nasty for sure. The British media has been acting like she broke up with THEM since their separation was announced. :dies: Don't forget the sad puppy papwalk his team had him do right after.

Definetly . Maybe 1 day before if Taylor's lucky.  With millions of vinyl being shipped out , someone will accidently get a copy early and leak it.

I have wondered if Joe threated her to do something nasty if she would write break-up songs about him. For some reason Jack seems pissed af at Joe. As a fellow songwriter Jack might get particularly upset about something like that. Hopefully TTPD gives us more information.

Yes and it's sad 'cause I will have to log off from this thread for 1-2 days :biblio:
But it would be even worse if someone will listen to the album a week in advance and start spilling all the tea about sound and lyrics. I don't want ANY spoilers except for track lenghts and producers. :khalyan2:
