It was pretty close if I recall dd I still hate that she didn’t at least squeak out the #1 with Karma, which would’ve been the only redeeming thing about that ~interesting~ remix and its release week 1

Like, NTWDT could’ve debuted at #1 had she not pushed IION? at all, but then it would’ve been hard to get IION? to #1 in week 2 since it’s just a vault track. With a new song, it would be a lot easier 13 minutes ago, Magickarp said: say it LOUDER Everyone keeps hyping DB, but of all the 20 tracks, it's the most basic one. How y'all gonna see her craziest tracklist ever, & be excited for the most "Disney channel turned popstar debut single" title. Like, I’m sawrreh but there’s no way Down Bad would be a more iconic single than My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys. Well, unless it sounds like a surefire hit and MBOBHFT doesn’t, which is possible. I do trust her at the end of the day tho because I think Swifties do way tew much about her lead single choices. Truthfully, Lover is the only time she really fumbled. Do fans have divisive opinions on songs like WANEGBT, LWYMMD, or SIO? Sure, yes, but they were still chosen strategically and were great choices. She’ll probably choose a good song this time. 2

I will never listen to it, but it was so corny and bad that it's circled around again and become iconic in a deranged way. Karma is the fire in your house indeed 1

SAY IT LOUDER Unless Down Bad is serving like big pop single energy it's pretty much the last song I want to be the single And as for the trashing of her non ME! leads, it's simply that some Swifties lack clarity on the purpose of those songs. None of them were supposed to be an All Too Well, but We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together is one of the most succinct end-of-situationship hits we've ever seen; Shake It Off (original, unfortunately I cannot say the same for the re-recording) is one of her most finely crafted and intricately produced songs, and is the true graduations, weddings, and funerals song of her career; Look What You Made Me Do, though polarizing at the time, has held up ridiculously well for a literal electroclash song with an I'm Too Sexy sample that sounds like it could've been made by the Black Eyed Peas in 2009, and was inarguably one of the peaks of female celebrity in the 2010s and is the most thorough "killing" of an artist's past self we've ever seen. They were chosen as singles for a reason and they were all immensely successful. ME! was the only misfire - she was aiming for another Shake It Off and landed with a Roar, but in an alternate reality where people had expectations of quality that Roar couldn't pull off. ME! was a vapid, empty single with weak production and an annoying collaborator, without any of the heft to back it up. Edited March 12 by wastedpotential 3

Evermore was also labedled pop I think so the description being passed around on twitter isn’t really anything, by the looks of the album it should be a more rocky synth kinda vibe the 2 dessners being on it really got me hyped into thinking that’ll be the sound 1
Kyle-x Posted March 12 Posted March 12 Not me coming back to The Reported Poets Thread. She could easily get multiple #1 singles now by dropping collectible 7" vinyl and CD singles with multiple covers. We're ready to open our purses for anything. It's weird she hasn't bothered doing this since cardigan, probably because of the rule change and needing them produced ahead of time. But she still could've bumped Karma and I Can See You and maybe even Lavender Haze upt to #1 with ease by doing that. 1 1

That would be interesting. In general, we really do have zero idea what this album will sound like though.

1989 Posted March 12 Posted March 12 nnnn not The Reported Poets Thread Spoiler I guess you could say we are Down Bad 5
Burqa Posted March 12 Posted March 12 i’ve learnt not to hype Taylor songs based on their titles… my most anticipated songs off midnights were “vigilante ****” and “question…?” and i thought lavender haze was a bland name specially for the opener down bad being the simplest title is kinda a blessing, we’ll see tho 2

Yeah, Harry sent Late Night Talking up to #3 for one random week because physicals singles for it shipping out that week. She needs to do this for the second single. Actually, on this topic, it’s a want and a NEED for her to sell physical vinyl and CD singles for the lead at her European concerts. It’ll go to #1 in most of the countries she stops at there. Like, even yes, and? debuted at #4 in France thanks to the physicals, even though streaming wasn’t that strong. If she tries this she could probably get her first top 3 single even in France of all places, with it being the first stop post-TTPD and all. 3

Arrows Posted March 12 Posted March 12 (edited) I’d love if the title track was the lead single. Could be an instant signature classic for her, such an iconic title. It named the album, and it’s track 2, which makes me think it’s a really strong track. Edited March 12 by Arrows
