Apparently his relationship with his wife inspired the entire ******* song and she lead us to believe the entire thing was about Joe for over a year before going back and publicly liking some random Paul McCartney fan account's tweet from the week of Midnights release to let us know that Joe was trash and had nothing to do with the content of the lyrics 4

Is 1989 a single girl album? Is reputation a revenge album? Is Lover truly a love album? None of these are true. She does this a lot. It’s just marketing. 3

Lover definitely feels like an album by someone in a long term relationship dealing with what that means and also dealing with life in general. Reputation is an album by someone that has learned about the politics of work and navigating that while maintaining a healthy personal life. Folklore and Evermore are albums about telling stories where she weaves her own stories with the ones from her imagination. I think these are much more interesting character portraits than a straight up concept album. 7

I’m just sayin if the concept of Midnights is “13 sleepless nights throughout Taylor’s life,” then I find it hilarious she tossed and turned in bed restlessly for 8 hours or so thinking about Paul McCartney and his wifey 6
Holiest Dreams Posted March 7 Posted March 7 All I’m going to say regarding the Joe situation is that I’m sooo glad she’s seemingly in the best place she’s ever been. She’s so beloved by the public and successful in her career, has a budding relationship that (seems to the public eye) to be healthy. And even outside of her love life, Andrea seems to be doing better, etc. And all of this is reflected in her mannerisms and actions as of late, she has this air of confidence and self-assurance that she didn’t used to have. This is why I hate that people tried to make the “my life finally makes sense” speech in May 2023 about M-word. It was obviously about the clarity she’s been finding in her own personal life lately, all on her own. 8
P!NK2LOVE Posted March 8 Posted March 8 I remember when I listened to folklore for the first time in 2020 and instantly thought the 1 was autobiographical and that she was indeed separated from Joe. She was just fantasising it seems
Burqa Posted March 8 Posted March 8 i remember when i first listened to midnights one of the first things i thought was “if my girlfriend was putting out songs like this i’d kms” with “to a house not a home all alone” being the most insane lyric the meteor strike line in question is crazy too 3

Lavendar Haze is basically I’m scared to leave this love bubble honeymoon phase because that’s… literally it. There’s nothing else. 5
Lemon Posted March 8 Posted March 8 Side noting how the movie Rye Lane ( highly recommended ), set in London of course, is so suitable for Lover. Like they could have used the whole album as its soundtrack ( plus Salt-N-Pepa ).
1989 Posted March 8 Posted March 8 Whew the dissertation I could write on Lavender Haze Re: the Midnights theme and Sweet Nothing, I actually think the “sleepless nights” thing is 100% true and well represented throughout the album? I’ve never understood why some think she lied about it being the theme. And as far as Sweet Nothing goes, she was clearly inspired by McCartney’s relationship but obviously related it to her own at the time (especially if she did indeed use his melody). Of course fast forward some and by the time she liked that tweet she wanted to be petty (and rightfully so), but she clearly initially wrote the song about J*e. Spoiler Sweet Nothing is my least favorite Midnights song 5
folkloreking Posted March 8 Posted March 8 Sweet Nothing is so underrated to me. I think it’s a intimate snapshot of the impending doom brought forth by the arrival of the pandemic back in March 2020. I haven't really seen people talking about how it’s most definitely about that time. The chorus and bridge have clear references to the general helplessness of everyone (They said the end is coming … Outside they’re push and shoving) demanding actions from officials, and all the grifters trying to make a quick buck off of desperation and conspirationists (“industry disrupters / soul deconstructors / smooth talking hucksters”). Such a special song in the greater canon IMO. 1
P!NK2LOVE Posted March 8 Posted March 8 Yes, it’s clear that Midnights actually happened at Midnight, I never got the discourse that it wasn’t a coherent theme. LH: anxiety M: depression AH: depression SOTB: delusion YOYOK: hugging your self to sleep MR: regret Q: delusion VS: anger B: anger L: anxiety K: hugging your self to sleep with a smile SN: realisation M: realisation All occurring on her lonesome, at midnight. At different nights. Dear Reader perfectly summaries this. 6
