19SLAYty9 Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Also, maybe she wants more #1s. At the rate she is going, she could potentially beat Mariah’s record one day. She could get 2 with this album with a pre release single, another 2 with each re recording, 2 with ts12 after the tour with the same release schedule as TTPD. That’s 17 right there.

I think she’s always writing, but that doesn’t mean that she’s producing and recording them immediately. When she was in new york she was going to the recording studio constantly. But Taylor's an artist who keeps on working on album until she has to turn them to manfacture the physicals (forever and always, death by a thousand cuts, etc were all added last minute) So TS 12 is definitely in progress but not finished finished. She will keep on recording for TS 12 until about 4-6 months before its release date .

Lead singles before the album only ruin the hype if the music is bad. I know that Taylor isn’t the best at picking leads, but I think it’s better to release music before an album so fans can at least know what to expect. I’d be less disappointed in Midnights if Taylor had released Anti-Hero weeks before the album.

Ever since evermore, the lead / single choices have made perfect sense. 2

EOM had blockbuster streams, the album not so much. Positions song was also okay and seemed to ruin hype for positions the album. Lead singles have to be great to not reduce hype. But I am fine with whatever Taylor wants. Also I think from folklore to midnights her lead single choices have been perfect. Me! is her only real flop lead single choice. 8
19SLAYty9 Posted March 5 Posted March 5 One last thing, if this album is red 2.0 in terms of themes and sonic cohesion, she could release a lead and flat out say musically the album has lots of different things as a way to keep the gp interested

Ever since evermore, the lead / single choices have made perfect sense. Tim McGraw, Lovestory, Mine, WANEGBT, Shake it Off and even LYMMD were all good lead single choices. Yes the last three were annoying but they served their purpose perfectly for being radio fodder. Shift to stream as allowed Taylor to dial that back , especially after Me! soured her on that strategy.
Arrows Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Even Anti-Hero, a massive hit, would’ve turned swathes of people off if released before the album imo. No lead is for the best! 4
Dear Reader Posted March 5 Posted March 5 (edited) I’d rather have her comment on the inspirations/sound/creative process for the album than have a lead single, personally. Edited March 5 by Dear Reader 6
Kern Posted March 5 Posted March 5 We need lead single so this thread can be finally free from the never ending discourse 1
19SLAYty9 Posted March 5 Posted March 5 I think we are def getting something the 22nd. Just unsure what. A documentary? An interview?

19SLAYty9 Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Realistically it would cost Taylor between 30-85 million to buy 2.5 million albums herself first week. I’m going to need her to do it tbh. 9

No lead is for the best! Yeah, this is a good point. The second the streets of twitter got their grubby paws on "Sexy Baby", they'd immediately have run it into the ground and it would've made the release cycle just a little bit more toxic and chaotic, which might've driven people away. I guess we can't know for sure, but unless the lead is a universally appealing, generic smash (and knowing Taylor and having hunches about this album, I really doubt it will be), I don't want it until the release Plus, there's likely a significant boost from the tens of millions of people who hear the lead on the radio the first day, with a message from the DJ (or even from Taylor if we're lucky) that her new album is out now 5
Arrows Posted March 5 Posted March 5 This thread is on fire today, and I can feel the hype growing in my bones This album release is gonna be an EVENT isn’t it 6

The second I saw the news that she surpassed 5 billion streams this year and was the fastest to do so ever I knew something was up. I think she will hit 2 million first week. Heck, I think she’s already surpassed 1 million in pre orders. 1
19SLAYty9 Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Release week I need her to drop 100k signed vinyls, cds, and cassettes of each edition daily. 1.2 million more coming

Sometimes lead singles build hype. Texas hold'em seems like its building hype for renaissance II. So I am mostly not in favor of lead singles but its seems like she's going to release something on the 22nd so likely a lead single. lead singles can be fun as long as you tune out the toxicity. it gives us some hints about the album sound and allows us to focus on discussing one song instead of it getting lost in the whole album. 1

According to the author Hank Green, it takes him 400 hours to sign 200K sheets. So with the tour and bf, I don't think she would devoted any of her scarce spare time to signing. For Midnights, folklore and evermore she wasn't touring so she had alot of spare time to sign. Not so much anymore. ( machine made signatures are extremely easy to catch see ariana and bieber)

We’ll have to wait and see what Texas will do for the album. I fear it could be another GP-driven Flowers situation - I don’t know if her core base would really dig a country album? 1
