Why do I feel like "My Boy... is never much talked about as the hymn it is? The outro alone ascends it to top 5 on the album easily for me. The rest of the song is sung so strongly confident and steadfast, but you can hear the desperation and despair in her voice come out at the end.

I felt more when we played pretend
Than with all the Kens
'Cause he took me out of my box
Stole my tortured heart....
Left all these broken parts....

Told me I'm better off....
But I'm not,
I'm not, I'm not.

Why does it matter if the listening experience is better?

I'm perfectly fine with my Spotify sound, i don't need to change my habits.

Let's talk about the bridges on this album

I loved your hostile takeovers

Encounters closer and closer

All your indecent exposures

How dare you say that it's -

I'll build you a fort on some planet

Where they can all understand it

How dare you think it's romantic

Leaving me safe and stranded

Cause what if I was in love

What if I can't have us.

Cause what if I was in love

What if I roll the stone away?

They're gonna crucify me anyway

What if the way you hold me

Is actually what's holy?

If long suffering propriety

Is what they want from me

They don't know how you've haunted me

So stunningly

I choose you and me

... Religiously

You **** talked me under the table

Talking rings and talking cradles

I wish I could un-recall

How we almost had it all

Dancing phantoms on the terrace

Are they second-hand embarrassed

That I can't get out of bed?

Cause something counterfeit's dead

It was legendary

It was momentary

It was unnecessary

Should've let it stay buried

Beauty is a beast that roars

Down on all fours

Demanding "more"

Only when your girlish glow

Flickers just so

Do they let you know

It's hell on earth to be heavenly

Them's the breaks

They don't come gently

And I sound like an infant

Feeling like the very last drops of an ink pen

A greater woman stays cool

But I howl like a wolf at the moon

And I look unstable

Gathered with a coven round a sorceress' table

A greater woman has faith

But even statues crumble if they're made to wait

I'm so afraid I sealed my fate

No sign of soulmates

I'm just a paperweight

In shades of greige

Spending my last coin so someone will tell me

It'll be ok

:clap3:

2011-2012 was worse tbf, the slurs galore, the cocky Little Monsters, Directioners casting death spells on Taylor cause of her dating Harry…

Another thing i remember from that period is that most Swifties were NOT willing to play dirty, we were the "model" fanbase to an extreme. And i do believe it's one of the reasons why OTHs have become so bold in discrediting and disrespecting Taylor the way they did over the years, they saw us as weak and thought they could get away with everything. We did not have a good street game at all back then :toofunny3:

You don't see Peter as being about Matty? The entire song is her positioning herself as Wendy and Matty as Peter. The loose ends left behind after their initial parting in 2014, broken promises, and their inability to find themselves in a timeline where they fit together. "I won't confess that I waited, but I let the lamp burn, as the men masqueraded, I hoped you return" -> literally biding time in each successive relationship while a flame still burned for her eternal muse. The song uses a point of reference from childhood, but that's only a device to illustrate her naivety for believing that one day things would work out between the two as well as provide a direct link to cardigan through the lyrical parallels. It's kind of the perfect song to serve as a prologue to lay the scene for the story that follows.

Sorry I didn't answer earlier, I was out for the weekend and forgot to answer when I got back.

Out of all the songs I had mentioned, I think Peter is the most debatable one on whether or not it fits on the album (I understand your point that it does belong, but from my point of view of the song, not really). While I do think the song talks about her relationship with Matty, I also think there's a deeper meaning behind it that goes way beyond just their relationship. Taylor has often talked about how much she had to change and grow after the Kanye incident/the "cancellation", and Matty was kind of the last man she's been really interested by before all that happened. To me, the whole metaphor of Peter Pan echoes back to her yearning for the innocence/youthful optimism she once had and was "taken from her" after all these events. By going back to Peter (/Matty), Taylor thinks she can get back that naivety from her earlier years that she's been missing so desperately. However, we've seen how that turned out. The line "But the woman who sits by the window has turned out the light" to me reads both as a goodbye to that relationship, that she understood would never work despite all these years dreaming about it, but also and more importantly to her innocence, that she understood she could never get back.

That's why I think I'm not sure Peter really fits on the album. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but that's how I feel anyway. Sure, the Matty relationship is part of it, but to me the song is so much more than that. It's about a woman who has to accept that she has grown, and that not even love could bring her the feeling of her youthful optimism back.

This general thread of her fear of growing up is one of the most interesting in her whole discography. She's been on it since forever with songs like Never Grow Up/Nothing New/Clara Bow/Peter, she talked a lot about it in the Miss Americana documentary, there's often a fear and/or resentment of being replaced by someone younger than her (both in the industry but also in her relationship, see All Too Well "I'll get older but your lovers stay my age")... I also think that's why she keeps on clinging to very youthful lyrics every now and then (what OTH would deem "immature") in songs like So High School or Miss Americana.

I really wish we get an album sometime where it's the whole topic. It would not only probably be one of the most relatable album she could ever come up with, but I think with the way songwriting helps her get through life, it could help her get to terms with it.

Very true, but AM has a bunch of other annoyances that you'll discover soon. Welcome to the family! :suburban:

100%, When I joined here, we were considered "the sweetest" fanbase by all major fanbased. Taylor was treated like she was not in the same league as Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry or Beyonce were, despite her big fanbase, her selling power and her tours outselling her peers. How the tables have turned :ahh:

I also remember that. When people were talking about curent pop queens and who could end up being "the new Madonna", "the new Supreme" and stuff like that, Taylor was NEVER in the conversation despite her already insane accomplishments. Even MILEY CYRUS was talked about in that sense over Taylor, that says it all :toofunny3:

OTHs wanted to ignore her all together and it backfired massively on them :rip:

The way I have to imagine being an OTH from 2017-2022 must've come with so much whiplash :deadbanana4:

pre Rep era through Look and the tour, into ME!, Lover, the masters, and covid, then folklore/evermore back to back, the re-records, Midnights, ERAS, and now TTPD :deadbanana2:

Their poor necks are still broken :gaycat6:

Yeah, it must NOT be fun to be a OTH, having Taylor proving them wrong all the time constantly :toofunny3:

But i don't feel sorry for them though, they're so insufferable and nasty. I mean they wasted no time already calling Taylor evil because she hasnt rushed to immediately endorse Kamala. We all know she's a Democrat already but of course OTHs gonna OTHs :toofunny3:

And that's a shame, I listen to this masterpiece at least twice a week. The only reason I don't do it more is because it's not tied to an album and I tend to almost exclusively play her albums.

I tacked it on to my evermore deluxe+ version alongside Renegade, The Alcott, and Carolina so it doesn't get forgotten :giraffe:

I want to do that but I still don't know where to put them. Carolina is in my evermore reworked between coney island and ivy and it sounds heavenly. I don't just want to tack the others at the end, but include them where it makes sense.

Now I'm running with my dress unbuttoned

Screaming "But Daddy I love him!"

I'm having his baby

No, I'm not, but you should see your faces

I'm telling him to floor it through the fences

No, I'm not coming to my senses

I know he's crazy but he's the one I want

a chorus :clap3:
