The streets of Twitter in 2013 were not safe if you weren't prepared to fight dirty :gaycat4:

2011-2012 was worse tbf, the slurs galore, the cocky Little Monsters, Directioners casting death spells on Taylor cause of her dating Harry…

nnn with Cruel Summer about a sneeze away from diamond eligibility, Taylor will have what... 5 albums with diamond eligible singles (4 in a row nnn), which is surely more than anyone else, right? :deadbanana4:

I can excuse the Disney people for not giving a **** but can Republic Records please step to the microphone to defend their decision to not keep Taylor's certifications up to date :gaycat4:

I'm sure she's waiting for her success to slow down to update her certifications, in a "and what do I still have to prove?" kind of way. Or maybe to be the most certified artist ever with a big margin like in Australia.

And it's Taylor, I have 0 doubt that even the BMR catalogue will get certified.

I can't wait to experience the album in fall/ winter cause it's such a cold/ depressing weather album :gaygacat5:.

i think this is a big part of why people had such weird reception to this era. i'm in Winter right now and the album clicked with me very quickly

This. I'm still surprised she released it in spring going into the summer instead of the usual Q4 because it fits this season a lot more.

@wastedpotential and @1989, thank you guys for your stories, you just gave me SO MUCH war flashbacks from the early 2010s when i was EXTREMELY messy myself online in the name of Taylor. I still am to some degree but not to the same extent :toofunny3:

And yeah, i was also holding on for dear life to THAT Safe and Sound performance, it's permanently graved in my brain as a result of using it so many times. I knew it wasn't her only good vocal performance at the time but i still used it a lot because it was easy :toofunny3:

The thing is: things have changed a lot since then, Taylor has definitively imposed her supremacy over all of her peers so i don't feel the need to defend her as voraciously as i used to. I'm motivated by hatred of OTHs these days, back then i was more motivated by hatred of her pop rivals themselves since i was still slightly insecure about the future of Taylor's career compared to some of her peers (especially Gaga and Rihanna, i NEVER could stand those two even to this day :rip:).

A part of me still can't believe how insanely well things have turned out for our girl, even in my wildest dreams i never thought she would end up THAT FAR ahead of everyone else. Maybe karma is real after all, we've been through so much and our efforts have paid off :johnald:

nnn I think the absolute worst of it was right after the boat pictures in 2013, but you're right in that it was pretty rough for a few years there :gaycat6:

Honestly, I think she just had to get it out as quickly as possible because it really didn't reflect where her life had become, so it was just best to put it out and move on :giraffe:

Exactly. I still get the holy ****, I can't believe this happened thoughts on a weekly basis, and there's alway some incomprehensible stat that just makes me stop and reflect on how far we've come :deadbanana2:

I no longer have to be messy for Taylor (not that the administration of this website looks kindly upon mess to that degree anymore, but I digress), because you can literally just throw down the numbers gauntlet with a fan of any other female artist and they'll have no rebuttal other than "oh, her voice is bad" or "oh, TTPD is a bad album", both of which I know are untrue lashouts coming from their own insecurities :jonny5:

Spoiler

Slightly in my own defense, I've also no longer felt the need to be messy for Taylor now that my prefrontal cortex has developed, because (among other things), I'm more aware of the fact that wishing a... self-ending onto someone else and then them actually... carrying it out is grounds for prosecution:suburban:

Still VERY obsessed with Fortnight.

I don't know how many times a week I start randomly humming the melody of the verses.

I don't have any messy stories honestly

Spoiler

Except for a dark time in 2011 that I used to stan only Gaga (you'll love this!) and was an annoying baguette who criticized every single other girl. :rip:

I first discovered taylor on my grandpa's funeral when I was only 9 :suburban:

Basically, I begged my cousin to send me songs by female artists (my gay ass was never impressed by men), and she sent me the love story music video and the fifteen performance at the 2009 grammys with miley.

The rest is history.

Oh yeah things have changed a lot haven't they? I still remember the doom and gloom of the Midnights thread before the era properly started and i was so nervous about the whole thing. I NEVER would've thought she'd went on to have probably the biggest comeback a female popstar ever had in history :rip:

OTHs truly have no real argument anymore, they're SO mad because they know their faves have no chance to catching up to Taylor anymore at this point. They would need more than a single successful era to do that, they would need to have their ENTIRE catalogue to bounce back in order to catch up. And it's not gonna happen because most of Taylor's peers just haven't created the kind of body of work Taylor did, therefore their back catalogue won't ever have the same appeal for the GP, especially the album tracks. Taylor is also still able to SELL music physically, something that her peers just cannot do to save their lives. So all OTHs have is endless bitterness because they know they lost the war, not just a battle :toofunny3:

And yeah, i also used to say...questionnable things myself 10-12 years ago online and i'm not that kind of person anymore thankfully :suburban:

I mean at some degree i can understand why people would find Gaga interesting back then but i always found her EXTREMELY overrated/overhyped, especially when her stans/the medias were insulting MADONNA of all people to prop Gaga up. I've been a Madonna stan since i was a young kid and seeing people trash her legacy/talent/body of work in the name of a pop star only 2-3 years in her career really disgusted me to no end. And Gaga herself and many people on her team were being shady/passive agressive toward Madonna which made things even worse :toofunny3:

All i have to say is i'm really glad Gaga's career took a nose dive, it was one of the most satisfactory moment of my stanning life :ryan3:

nnnn I used to be one of those annoying little monsters that criticized Madonna a lot. I've grown a lot since then and I can appreciate Madonna a lot more and now that if it wasn't for her, we wouldn't have any of the other girlies

I swear, these days there is no fanbase that Taylor makes madder than the Liddos. :rip:

Fair enough, people grow and learn and that's the most important thing at the end of the day

nnn it's the way that I actually almost stanned Gaga in like 2010 but one of her fans said something bitchy about Taylor and I wrote her off entirely :deadbanana4:

I still love her music from that time period I feel less... positively about most of her post 2011 output, but that's neither here nor there, but I sometimes do wonder what my life would be like if I were a Liddo :deadbanana2:

Yeah, I'm a very different person now and I love to stan all women, unless they're really problematic like recent releases.
