So Long, London is track 5 over The Smallest Man because while there are several track 5s about sh*tty relationships across her discography, there was no track 5 that touched the quiet acceptance (and kinda melancholic one) of a relationship running its course... I find it very elegant and it's definitely in my Top 3 of the album

I like SLL as track 5 because it's about the relationship that set the stage for the events of all of the songs surrounding it. And I feel like the emotional core of that song is about a deeper wound than any of the other songs are

I love SLL, but sometimes I think it's a touch too obvious as a track 5. Plus, it's actually quite surface level as far as that relationship + it ending goes. How Did It End? is actually devastating when you think of not only the relationship and the end of it, but Taylor's love life up to that point.

Yep it would have ushered the album into the TTPD vibe beautifully. I would have chosen My boy as the second and Down bad as then prob fresh out the slammer... as track 4...

No. It's a great album, but too much filler. 60% of the Anthology is just bad BAD, while the standard album is of course much more polished but still lacks some editing. TTPD is no folklore.

Yeah, it was the obvious lead single choice. Like most of her albums it's not the best song on the bunch but it makes perfect sense as a lead.

The "I'm pissed off you let me give you all that youth for free" line in SLL is one of her most heartbreaking lyrics ever. The concept of wasting her best years on something that amounted to nothing is present on most of ttpd, but she says it so plainly and directly on SLL and it's so heartbreaking. 

This is why I'm seeing alot of 30+ people relating to this album more than the early 20s crowd. And as an old hag I relate to it the most too .
