Taylor Swift - 'THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT'

what frustrates me a little about some reviews is that A LOT of the albums lyrics are humorous / meant to be funny or sarcastic but it seems like NO ONE is picking up on that except the fans which is so annoying lol. Either that or these ppl are picking up on it but just choosing to act like they arent so they can score points of loling at her for certain lyrical choices. Like the amount of ppl taking the charlie puth, chocolate bars and smelling like babies or weed lines so seriously or out of context is WILD AF lol. I genuinely just don't get it

this, the sarcastic humor to go with depression theme is what make this album so special for me, cause i`m also use humor to cope with my depress moments in life.

nowadays people just take everything at face value and dont want to have fun lol

Tbh I think the issue (at least for me) is once people realize a lot of the songs are about Ratty, it leaves a bad taste in your mouth that clouds your initial listening experience. I honestly think that plays a role for the more online people.

The names on TTPD could possibly be in reference to different wine brands and some lyrics could be alluding to her "type" of men. A viral Reddit thread. Read it and check the comments. She's a mastermind :psyduck:

I feel like a lot of the public refuse to believe she's in on the joke or that it's intentional. See: that video of her dancing in the Delicate video that goes viral on X every fortnight and everyone ignores the entire point of the video. :rip: Most of her peers are always trying to position themselves as either untouchable or super self-serious artists or cool/aloof/unaffected whereas she's always positioned herself as a relatable counterpoint.

I think a lot of her being comfortable in embracing the things that make people cringe rubs up against people's own insecurities so they hate the parts of them they see in her.

edit: I'm mostly just using this as a jumping off point for a general discussion on the way people receive her. It's okay if people genuinely don't click with a lyric or something nnn but people divorcing things from the context to **** on her or make her art seem dumb has become a common occurrence

He's clearly a clout chaser dc if he liked it or not

If he was chasing clout he would incessantly praise everything and not actually express his genuine opinions. He's a music enthusiast and finds appreciation across many different artists in different genres, and it pains me when I see Swiffers try to besmirch his name just because he isn't enamored with 100% of her catalogue in the way we are :rip: That's not how casual listeners (non-stans) consume music.

Yeah, this was so true for me. It's also part of the reason why The Anthology was much more instant. No hype or expectations to be met. And even though many of the songs are based on the same experiences as the main album, I feel that the writing on Anthology is oddly way less obvious about it—though I can't really explain how. :psyduck:

Sometimes I cannot stop playing The Bolter for a ridiculous amount of times in a row :rip: literally had it on loop for a few hours at work today

how does this album NOT get old!! I've been listening to other music so as to not exhaust it already but every two or three days i have to go back to it and it always sounds even fresher and better :jonny: I don't understand how she can make her best album ever 17 years into her career what the hell

That's a good point, though for me it did the opposite - the added context of Ratty made these songs hit so much harder just because now I could understand how messy and manic and toxic the whole thing was.

But then again I'm a Gemini, I live for chaos and drama so :coffee2:

I don't think Delicate really belongs, but Nothing New, Castles Crumbling, mirrorball, Clara Bow, You're On Your Own Kid, and The Manuscript can all be worked into this narrative.

How I forgot YOYOK is beyond me. :deadbanana2:

I like hthaze but I'm scared his video will piss me off a bit

To be fair ttpd is not an instant classic it takes a while for it to sink in which leaves a mixed first listen (as reflected by the reviews tbh)

It's been very obvious since his Lover reaction that hthaze is a clout chaser that just goes with whatever he thinks the popular opinion is

i still haven`t listen to her old music like it just feels weird, since TTPD release, i listen to it 90% of the time i listen to music, 10% is just for some new music release update and some other current hits.

I plan to make a dramatic grand return to her discography this Friday (4 weeks since TTPD release). Oh i can already feel Midnights and reputation, the night time album will sounds so good. Oh and her country discography....

I think this album would've been perfect (and possibly her best) if instead of the midnights sounding songs (specially the alchemy :rip: ) it had a three or four more songs like The Black Dog, The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived

Posted

The Black Dog might be contender for top 5 songs ever in her discography.

It effortlessly destroys me so much. Tonight, again. After I saw my ex again. :monkey:

Can she re-record sad beautiful tragic in the style of TTPD and put it on the deluxe? :dancehall: A perfect song to make it even more perfect.

I have some weird hope that Taylor is going to try her best to score another #1 from this album because I dont think she wants a Reputation vault track to become her 13th #1 tbh. She will either sabotage herself to not get any #1s until TS12's lead single to make it a big event OR she will do everything in her power to score her 13th #1 single from this album. She is very big on numerical stuff so I hope I am right and she goes all out for one of the future singles from Tortured Poets :gaycat1:
